Purpose: Clinicians monitor scoliosis progression using multiple radiographs during growth. During imaging, arms must be elevated to visualize vertebrae, possibly affecting sagittal alignment. This study aimed to determine the arm position that best represents habitual standing (and possibly allowing hand-based skeletal maturity assessment) to obtain frontal and lateral stereo-radiographs as measured using frontal, sagittal, and transverse angles.

Comparison of QuantiFERON Gold In-Tube Versus Tuberculin Skin Tests on the Initiation of Tuberculosis Preventive Therapy Among Patients Newly Diagnosed With HIV in the North West Province of South Africa (the Teko Study): A Cluster Randomized Trial.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) preventive therapy (TPT) reduces the risk of TB disease in people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), yet uptake has been suboptimal in many countries. We assessed whether QuantiFERON Gold In-Tube (QGIT) during routine HIV care increased TB infection (TBI) testing and TPT prescriptions.

Methods: This parallel-arm, 1:1 cluster-randomized controlled trial compared the standard-of-care tuberculin skin test to QGIT in South Africa.

Seeking Care for Children with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities in the Emergency Department: A Mixed Methods Systematic Review of Parents' Experiences and Information Needs.

The objective of this review was to explore parents' experiences and information needs regarding management of their child with an intellectual and/or developmental disability (IDD) in the emergency department (ED). We searched six electronic databases and grey literature to identify primary studies in English published since 2000. We synthesized quantitative and qualitative outcome data simultaneously using a convergent integrated approach and used a Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT) to assess methodological quality of the included studies.

Genitourinary syndrome of lactation: a new perspective on postpartum and lactation-related genitourinary symptoms.

Background: The genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) is a well-documented condition characterized by a range of genitourinary symptoms in peri- and postmenopausal women. As with GSM, postpartum lactating women experience reduced estrogen and androgen levels. However, there is limited research on the impact of symptoms during the postpartum breastfeeding period.

Four year evaluation of a parent advisory group to support a research program for knowledge translation in child health.

Background: In 2016, we developed a pediatric parent advisory group to inform our research program which creates innovative knowledge translation (KT) tools for parents on priority topics related to acute childhood illness. We implemented a mixed methods strategy to evaluate the experiences of group members. The purpose of this paper is to present the findings from parent evaluations over four years and to discuss our experiences collaborating with the group over a multi-year period.

Health care providers acceptance of default prescribing of TB preventive treatment for people living with HIV in Malawi: a qualitative study.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) preventive treatment (TPT) substantially reduces the risk of developing active TB for people living with HIV (PLHIV). We utilized a novel implementation strategy based on choice architecture (CAT) which makes TPT prescribing the default option. Through CAT, health care workers (HCWs) need to "opt-out" when choosing not to prescribe TPT to PLHIV.

Modeling the impact of universal tuberculosis molecular testing and timing of tuberculosis preventive treatment during antiretroviral therapy initiation in South Africa.

Objectives: Targeted universal tuberculosis (TB) testing can improve TB detection among people with HIV. This approach is being scaled up in South Africa through Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra testing for individuals starting antiretroviral therapy and annually thereafter. Clarity is needed on how Universal Xpert testing may affect TB preventive treatment (TPT) provision, and on whether TPT should be delayed until TB is ruled out.

Influencing factors on women's attitudes toward hormone therapy acceptance for menopause treatment: a systematic review.

Importance: There is a paucity of data on recent attitudes and perceptions toward hormone therapy use, especially subsequent reanalysis and follow-up of Women's Health Initiative data.

Objective: The aim of this systematic review was to assess the factors influencing women's attitudes and perceptions toward hormone therapy use for menopausal symptoms.

Evidence Review: We conducted a comprehensive search of several medical databases including PubMed, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and Scopus.

Cross-cultural validation of the Italian Spine Youth Quality of Life questionnaire: the ISYQOL international.

Background: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and its treatments can severely impact health-related quality of life. The Italian Spine Youth Quality of Life (ISYQOL) questionnaire, initially developed in Italian and tested on Italian people, was created to measure quality of life in young persons with spine changes. ISYQOL was created using the Rasch analysis, a modern psychometric technique for questionnaires' assessment and development, which showed that the ordinal scores of the ISYQOL Italian version provide sound quality of life measures.

Strengthening HIV and HIV co-morbidity care in low- and middle-income countries: insights from behavioural economics to improve healthcare worker behaviour.

Introduction: Despite advances in HIV and HIV co-morbidity service delivery, substantial challenges remain in translating evidence-based interventions into routine practice to bring optimal care and prevention to all populations. While barriers to successful implementation are often multifactorial, healthcare worker behaviour is critical for on-the-ground and in-clinic service delivery. Implementation science offers a systematic approach to understanding service delivery, including approaches to overcoming delivery gaps.

Background: We report the yield of targeted universal tuberculosis (TB) testing of clinic attendees in high-risk groups.

Methods: Clinic attendees in primary healthcare facilities in South Africa with one of the following risk factors underwent sputum testing for TB: human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), contact with a TB patient in the past year, and having had TB in the past 2 years. A single sample was collected for Xpert-Ultra (Xpert) and culture.

Stroke is a devastating disease that results in neurological deficits and represents a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Following a stroke, there is a degree of spontaneous recovery of function, the neural basis of which is of great interest among clinicians in their efforts to reduce disability following stroke and enhance rehabilitation. Conventionally, work on spontaneous recovery has tended to focus on the neural reorganization of motor cortical regions, with comparably little attention being paid to changes in non-motor regions and how these relate to recovery.

In Australia, paramedics are obliged to practice ethically. Graduates of baccalaureate degrees in paramedicine should therefore possess a common grounding in ethics to meet the professional capabilities expected of registered paramedics. However, there is a lack of clarity regarding ethics education for paramedicine students, including what is taught, how it is taught, and how it is assessed.

Recommendations have been made to integrate screening for common non-communicable diseases (NCDs) within TB programs. However, we must ensure screening is tied to evidence-based interventions before scale-up. Needs of parents with children with scoliosis are complex and depend on their child's treatments. The purpose of this study was to identify needs of parents with children with scoliosis. This qualitative description involved interviews with parents of children at various stages of treatment.

Timelines for returning to physical activity following pediatric spinal surgery: recommendations from the literature and preliminary data.

Objective: Participation in physical activity and sports is known to have positive implications for physical health, and for social and emotional wellbeing of children. Following corrective spinal surgery for scoliosis, the timeline for the return to activities and sports varies from surgeon to surgeon and from location to location, and return to activities can be limited due to pain, fear, and decreased flexibility. It is critical that patients know best-practice guidelines, and it is equally critical that medical professionals know whether their patients are following those guidelines.
