Article Synopsis
  • Kidney disease is becoming a major global health concern, with projections indicating it will rank as the fifth-leading cause of life lost by 2040.
  • The research focuses on understanding the dose-dependent effects of electron irradiation on renal tissue, as the impact of this type of radiation is not well studied compared to others like gamma and X-rays.
  • Findings show that higher doses of electron irradiation cause increased oxidative stress, inflammation, and significant damage to kidney tissue, including apoptosis and early fibrosis, highlighting the importance of managing radiation doses to protect kidney function.

Article Synopsis
  • - Radiation-induced liver disease (RILD) is a serious side effect of radiotherapy used for abdominal cancers, particularly affecting the liver's crucial functions and limiting the overall effectiveness of treatment.
  • - Electron beam therapy has shown promise in targeting tumors with less damage to surrounding healthy tissue, but the long-term effects on liver health and the potential for chronic damage need further research, especially regarding vitamin C's protective qualities.
  • - A study involving male Wistar rats examined the impact of electron beam radiation and vitamin C on liver health, showing that radiation caused weight loss and liver mass reduction, while various biochemical and genetic analyses provided insights into how vitamin C might mitigate some of these adverse effects.

Burn injuries represent a significant problem in clinical practice due to the high risk of infection and the prolonged healing process. Recently, more attention has been given to natural remedies such as water extracts of various medicinal plants, which possess anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of L.

Morphological evaluation of the small intestine mucosa and apoptosis activity (caspase-3) is necessary to assess the severity of damage to the small intestine. At the same time, proliferative index based on Ki-67 can be used to assess the regenerative potential of the small intestine. Fragments of small intestine of Wistar rats (n=60) of three groups: I) control (n=20); II) experimental group (n=20; local single electron irradiation at a dose of 2 Gy), III) experimental group (n=20; local single electron irradiation at a dose of 8 Gy) were studied by light microscopy using hematoxylin and eosin staining and immunohistochemical reactions with antibodies to Ki-67 and caspase-3.

Background: Research on the subject of the influence of SARS-CoV-2 mechanisms on human homeostasis remains an actual problem. Particular interest is the study of pathomorphological changes in the appendix in children with COVID-19.

Objectives: Aim of this study: morphological and molecular biological evaluation of the appendix in children of different age groups with COVID-19.

Secondary acquired lacrimal duct obstruction (SALDO) is one of the complications of radioiodine therapy. The material was obtained during endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy with revision of Hasner's valve in patients with PANDO (n = 7) in the distal segments of the nasolacrimal duct and in patients with SALDO (n = 7) after radioactive iodine therapy. The material was stained with hemotoxylin and eosin, alcyan blue, and by Masson method.

The COVID-19 epidemic is being revealed from a new angle every month. In particular, with the appearance of the delta strain, mucormycosis began to manifest in some patients, which had previously been extremely rare. Mucormycosis is a rare, aggressive infection caused by filamentous fungi of the Mucorales family and associated with high morbidity and mortality rates.

Background And Purpose: With the emergence of linear accelerators in radiotherapy, it becomes necessary to accurately select new dosing regimens. The purpose of this study was to assess the morphological changes of spermatogenesis after radiation exposure.

Materials And Methods: Male Wistar rats (n = 40) were subjected to targeted ionizing radiation on a pulsed electron accelerator "NOVAC-11" with doses of 2, 8 and 12 Gy.

Objective: To analyze treatment outcomes in patients with severe pseudomembranous colitis and previous coronavirus infection.

Material And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed treatment outcomes, clinical, laboratory and histological data in convalescents of COVID-19 who admitted to the department of coloproctology for moderate-to-severe pseudomembranous colitis confirmed by endoscopic examination between 2020 and 2021.

Results: There were 13 patients with moderate pseudomembranous colitis and 6 ones with severe pseudomembranous colitis.

Materials And Methods: Experimental animals ( = 135) were divided into 5 groups: I - control ( = 10); II - 2IR ( = 35; 2 Gy); III - 2IR + LP-PRP + IGF-1 ( = 30); IV - 2IR + LP-PRP ( = 30); V - LP-PRP ( = 30).

Results: Electron irradiation reduces the number of germ cells in comparison with the control group. After injection of LP-PRP + rhIGF-1 significantly increased the number of germ cells, Sertoli and Leydig cells, the height of germinal epithelium, area and diameter of seminiferous tubules.
