Experimental and theoretical investigation of water-soluble silicon(IV) phthalocyanine and its interaction with bovine serum albumin.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has drawn a great scientific attention to cancer treatment over the last decades. However, the bottleneck for the PDT is to find good photosensitizers (PSs) with greater water solubility, no aggregation, and fast discharge from the body. Therefore, there are still a big scientific desire for the synthesizing new rational PSs for treatment of cancer by PDT technique.

1,4-dibutoxy-2,3-di(4-pyridyl)-8,11,15,18,22,25-hexakis(hexyl)- phthalocyaninato zinc, a self-assembled coordination polymer in the solid state.

The title compound forms intermolecular zinc-nitrogen coordinated species in solution and self-assembles to form a coordination polymer in the solid state, the X-ray structure for which shows that the unit cell contains eight macrocycle units in two chains comprising both enantiomeric forms as ABBA/BAAB sequences.
