Neural representations of sensory percepts and motor responses constitute key elements of autobiographical memory. However, these representations may remain as unintegrated sensory and motor fragments in traumatic memory, thus contributing toward re-experiencing and reliving symptoms in trauma-related conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Here, we investigated the sensorimotor network (SMN) and posterior default mode network (pDMN) using a group independent component analysis (ICA) by examining their functional connectivity during a script-driven memory retrieval paradigm of (potentially) morally injurious events in individuals with PTSD and healthy controls.

Background: Post-traumatic stress disorder can be viewed as a memory disorder, with trauma-related flashbacks being a core symptom. Given the central role of the hippocampus in autobiographical memory, surprisingly, there is mixed evidence concerning altered hippocampal functional connectivity in PTSD. We shed light on this discrepancy by considering the distinct roles of the anterior versus posterior hippocampus and examine how this distinction may map onto whole-brain resting-state functional connectivity patterns among those with and without PTSD.

Rationale & Objective: Heart failure and chronic kidney disease (CKD) frequently coexist reflective of the strong interplay between these organ systems. A better understanding of the prevalence of different types of heart failure (preserved and reduced ejection fraction) and their subsequent mortality risks among advanced CKD patients would provide important epidemiologic insights and may pave the way for more focused and proactive management strategies.

The Role of Virtual Consulting in Developing Environmentally Sustainable Health Care: Systematic Literature Review.

Background: Health systems globally need to rapidly set and achieve targets for reaching net zero carbon emissions. Background: Little is known about the opportunities for shared decision-making when older high-risk patients are offered major surgery. This study examines how, when, and why clinicians and patients can share decision-making about major surgery.

Methods: This was a multi-method qualitative study, combining video recordings of preoperative consultations, interviews, and focus groups (33 patients, 19 relatives, 36 clinicians), with observations and documentary analysis in clinics in five hospitals in the UK undertaking major orthopaedic, colorectal, and/or cardiac surgery.

Light, temperature, water, and nutrient availability influence how plants grow to maximize access to resources. Axial growth, the linear extension of tissues by coordinated axial cell expansion, plays a central role in these adaptive morphological responses. Using Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) hypocotyl cells to explore axial growth control mechanisms, we investigated WAVE-DAMPENED2-LIKE4 (WDL4), an auxin-induced, microtubule-associated protein and member of the larger WDL gene family shown to modulate hypocotyl growth under changing environmental conditions.

One of these barriers is what is known as the 'wrong pocket' problem - where an organisation or sector makes expenditures and investments to address a given problem, but the benefits (return on investment) are captured by another organisation or sector (the wrong pocket).

Testing of a custom, portable drill press to minimize probe misalignment in sap flow sensors.

The accurate estimation of plant transpiration is critical to the fields of hydrology, plant physiology and ecology. Among the various methods of measuring transpiration in the field, the sap flow methods based on head pulses offers a cost-effective and energy-efficient option to directly measure the plant-level movement of water through the hydraulically active tissue. While authors have identified several possible sources of error in these measurements, one of the most common sources is misalignment of the sap flow probes due to user error.

Influences of the community and consumer nutrition environment on the food purchases and dietary behaviors of adolescents: A systematic review.

Adolescence is a period of increased autonomy over decision-making, including food choices, and increased exposure to influences outside the home, including the food environment. This review aims to synthesize the evidence for the influence of community nutrition environments, spatial access to food outlets, and consumer nutrition environments, environments inside food outlets, on adolescent food purchasing and dietary behaviors in high-income countries. Six databases were searched for articles published before January 2023.

Impact of Hormone Treatment on Psychosocial Functioning in Gender-Diverse Young People.

Few studies have assessed the effects of hormonal treatments such as gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRHa) and gender-affirming hormones (GAH) on mental health outcomes in clinically referred gender-diverse young people from a younger age. Where this research has been conducted, findings have been mixed. This study investigated a cohort of young people before treatment, 1 year into GnRHa, and 1 year into GAH treatment to understand psychological and behavioral impacts over time.

Hypoglycaemia in high-risk neonates on exclusive breastfeeding.

Background: Neonates at risk of hypoglycemia are often roomed in with mothers, but there is paucity of literature on the occurrence of hypoglycemia in these exclusively breastfed high-risk neonates. The primary objective was to estimate the incidence of hypoglycaemia in high-risk neonates on exclusive breastfeeding. The secondary objectives were to study the time of presentation, symptoms of hypoglycaemia, and the various maternal and neonatal risk factors.

Effectiveness of nirmatrelvir-ritonavir in preventing hospital admissions and deaths in people with COVID-19: a cohort study in a large US health-care system.

Background: In the USA, oral nirmatrelvir-ritonavir is authorised for use in patients aged 12 years or older with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 who are at risk of progression to severe disease and hospitalisation. We aimed to establish the effectiveness of nirmatrelvir-ritonavir in preventing hospital admissions and death in people with COVID-19 in an outpatient prescribing context in the USA.

Methods: In this matched observational outpatient cohort study in the Kaiser Permanente Southern California (CA, USA) health-care system, data were extracted from electronic health records of non-hospitalised patients aged 12 years or older who received a positive SARS-CoV-2 PCR test result (their index test) between April 8 and Oct 7, 2022, and had not received another positive test result within the preceding 90 days.

Design: Observational, cross-sectional study. Data were sought from NZ tertiary education institutions for all eligible students accepted into the first 'professional' year of a health professional programme for the 5-year period 2016-2020 inclusive.

Does caudal analgesia improve pain control for pediatric burn surgery: A retrospective study.

Pediatric burns affect approximately 15-20 patients per 100 000 hospital admissions, but unfortunately there is a lack of evidence to guide optimal strategies for acute pain control. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether caudal analgesia with single injection of local anesthetics reduced pain medication consumption in pediatric patients who required surgical intervention for burn injuries. Retrospective data from patients <7 years old who had burn surgery in the operating rooms at a single regional burn center from 2013 to 2021 was obtained and analyzed.
