Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) remains an unmet medical need. Recently, fusogens, such as polyethylene glycol (PEG), have been proven effective in restoring sensorimotor function after complete transection of the spinal cord at different levels and in different species. Here, we report on the use of a PEG-chitosan combo in a different animal model (swine).

Background: The aim was to study functional recovery in experimental animals (rabbits) with transected spinal cords treated with a combination of photo-cross-linked chitosan in a homogeneous mixture with polyethylene glycol (PEG-chitosan).

Methods: 20 rabbits ( = 10 experimental and = 10 controls) were submitted to complete spinal cord transection at T9. The experimental group received an intraoperative injection of PEG-chitosan.

We propose a broadband single-element monochromator with a constant deviation angle and fixed slits for the wavelength range of 3-60 nm, which uses a grazing incidence plane varied line-space (VLS) grating with exponential dependence of line frequency across the aperture. Wavelength scanning is performed by translating the VLS grating along its surface. The deviation angle is constant, and the source, input, and output slits are stationary.

the analysis of a specific and strains drift of Candida in HIV/AIDS patients with oropharyngeal candidiasis and the analysis of Candida sensitivity dynamics to reference antimycotic drugs. The study comprised 49 HIV-infected patients aged 20-69 years. The study revealed candidiasis treatment provides specific and strains drift of Candida.

We describe a broadband (12.5-30 nm) extreme ultraviolet (XUV) spectrograph, which is stigmatic throughout its operating range. The instrument employs a near-normal-incidence aperiodic Mo/Si multilayer mirror and a grazing-incidence plane varied line-space (VLS) grating.

DNA viruses have high oncogenic risk viruses; they cause emergence of Kaposi sarcoma, Lymphoma, Squamous cell carcinoma. HIV immunodeficiency promotes increase in frequency of such tumors. Etiotropic therapy of HIV patients considerably reduces prevalence of DNA viruses and a viral malignization.

In the article modern scientific data about etiopathogenesis, prevalence of HIV/AIDS-related salivary glands diseases (SGD) were cited. Questions of ultrasonic diagnostics, impact of specific antiviral therapy on SGD clinical course were considered. Author's result of a clinical case of three-year supervision of a HIV-infected patient with chronic parotid sialadenitis from own practice was presented.

The paper presents the results of studying the regularities and distribution pattern of natural radionuclides (potassium-40, thorium-232), as well as the representatives of the uranium family (radium-226, polonium-210) and the technogenic isotope cesium-137 in different objects of the water ecosystem in the North-Western District of Moscow (bottom sediment, hydrobiota). Some radiation parameters of these objects (the total alpha- and beta-activities of the radionuclides, their specific effective activity are given. On the basis of the experimental findings, the authors have made an assessment of the radioecological situation in the water pool of the district examined.

The authors evaluated distribution of technogenic isotope cesium-137 and natural radionuclides (radium-226, thorium-232 and kalium-40) in bottom sediments of water ecosystem in Moscow region. Radiation parameters of the sediments appeared to be similar to background values of soils and grounds in the region.

The paper deals with the development of a highly sensitive method for determining plutonium isotopes (238Pu, 239Pu + 240Pu, 242Pu) in the solid samples of environmental objects with preliminary radiochemical preparation. The chosen conditions for preparation of samples permit effective separation of plutonium from mixing alpha-radiating radionuclides and allow plutonium to release in the radiochemically pure form to a sample to be calculated. Spectrometric measurements of the calculated samples and identification of isotopes were made on a "Progress-alpha" alpha-spectrometric unit having a silicon semiconductor detector.

The pattern of distribution of 210Po, 226Ra, 232Th, and 40K was studied in the superficial soil layer of Moscow. There was a correlation between the soil levels of the natural uranium decay products 210Po and 226Ra. The ratio of specific 210Po, 226Ra activities was 1.

The content of radionuclides and metals in the agent to control the ice-crusted ground Kama-M was determined. An investigation has shown that the radioactive background of the agent is caused only by the presence of 40K as part of KCl. Small quantities of 226Ra and 232Th are present in the insoluble sediment.
