Laboratories with a well-established diagnostic stewardship program for culture and the antimicrobial susceptibility test (C-AST) play a key role in guiding clinicians to institute specific targeted therapy. Blood culture is one of the most critical investigations performed at a microbiology laboratory. Therefore, it is particularly important to develop a robust diagnostic stewardship model for the blood culture laboratory division.

Hoffmann's syndrome in subclinical hypothyroidism.

Hypothyroidism is an endocrine disorder which occurs due to a deficiency of thyroid hormones. Hoffmann's syndrome is a rare complication of hypothyroidism - presenting as hypothyroid myopathy. We describe the case of a 20-year-old lactating female, known to have hypothyroidism (diagnosed during her pregnancy and having discontinued treatment following delivery), presenting with complaints of pain, swelling of bilateral calf muscles with cramps in bilateral lower limbs.

An Ocular Emergency Often Ignored.

Branch retinal artery occlusion (BRAO) is a relatively rare vascular disorder characterized by the occlusion of one or more branches of the central retinal artery, with an incidence of around 5 per 100,000 persons per year. Its ability to cause permanent vision loss in a specific visual field makes it a significant clinical obstacle that requires careful management. We describe a case of a 77-year-old male patient, a known hypertensive (on medication and whose hypertension was under control), presented with sudden painless loss of vision in the superior field of his right eye.
