Many health-care organizations and associations recommend that registered nurses be culturally competent and technologically savvy to compete in today's global society. This article reports both traditional and innovative technology-based teaching strategies that increased cultural competencies in nursing students in a BSNIMSN program for foreign-educated physicians. The Inventory for Assessing the Process of/Cultural Competency among Healthcare Professionals-Revised, was used at the beginning and at the end of the program.

The nursing shortage in the USA is expected to reach 260,000 registered nurses (RNs) by 2025. The most profound shortages are expected in California and Florida, translating into 109,779 and 128,364 RN jobs, respectively. Despite a foreseen growth in nursing career opportunities nationwide, the supply of nurses will be insufficient to meet the corresponding demand.

The Car Seat Committee at our facility was formed in April 2000 to implement the American Academy of Pediatrics policy statement and recommendations for "Safe Transport of Newborns at Hospital Discharge." This study details the program developed at our facility to implement the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations. In addition to the development of policies, the goals of the committee included: patient and staff education, marketing car seat information, community outreach, and research/reporting.
