There are limited data on the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for pregnant and peripartum women with COVID-19 associated acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Pregnant women may exhibit more severe infections with COVID-19, requiring intensive care. We supported nine pregnant or peripartum women with COVID-19 ARDS with ECMO, all surviving and suffering no major complications from ECMO.

A 27-year-old woman presented at 23 weeks' 6 days' gestation who tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Despite mechanical ventilation and paralysis, she remained hypoxic and was emergently cannulated for veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO). The patient ambulated while intubated and on VV-ECMO.
