Background: Medical interns have 2 weeks compulsory internship in psychiatry.

Aim: We tried to explore their learning and views about psychiatry during these 2 weeks. To document verbatim their account about the knowledge gained and their experiences during the psychiatry internship posting and derive prominent themes.

Cross-sectional study of psychiatric morbidity in patients with melasma.

Context: Patients with dermatological problems have higher prevalence of psychiatric illnesses than the general population. Melasma, hyperpigmentation of skin over sun-exposed areas, has bidirectional cause-effect relationship with depression and stress through psycho-neuro-endocrine pathways.

Aims: The aim of this study is to study the psychiatric morbidity and perceived stress in patients with melasma and statistically compare objective study parameters with those without melasma.

Untreated major depressive disorder with and without atypical features: a clinical comparative study.

Aims And Method: A comparative study of major depression with and without atypical features (as per DSM IV TR criteria) was planned to assess illness characteristics, resulting dysfunction and co-morbidities, which can have important implications in its management. Serially, 107 newly registered patients with depression not taking any treatment for at least a month were included. Patients with psychotic features in present or past, known bipolar disorder and likely organic aetiology were excluded.

Screening for depression and its risk factors in geriatric population: A rural community based study.

This is a rural community-based study for screening depression and its risk factors in a geriatric population. A proportionate random sample was collected from six villages in Maval Taluka through house-to-house surveys conducted by the authors. A short (15 item) form of the geriatric depression scale was used, along with a semi-structured questionnaire specially designed for the study.

Children with medically unexplained pain symptoms: categorization and effective management.

Context: Medically unexplained pain symptoms are common in children, and their incidence is on the rise. There is often a lack of clearly articulated pathophysiology in these patients. There is need to improve understanding about varied causes and presentations of these patients which would generate further insight in management of these patients.

Cultural epidemiology of neurasthenia spectrum disorders in four general hospital outpatient clinics of urban Pune, India.

Disorders emphasizing symptoms of fatigue and/or weakness, collectively termed Neurasthenia Spectrum Disorders (NSDs), typically emphasize a biological basis in the West and social origins in East Asia. In India, explanatory concepts are diverse. To clarify, 352 outpatients in Psychiatry, Medicine, Dermatology, and Ayurved clinics of an urban hospital were interviewed with a version of the Explanatory Model Interview Catalogue.

Evaluation of functional impairment in psoriasis.

Background: Psoriasis is a chronic disease, the course of which is punctuated by exacerbations and remissions. The impact of a chronic, relapsing, and disfiguring disease such as psoriasis on occupational, social, and other areas of functioning is substantial and needs attention.
