Significance of ultrasonography in diagnosing transverse testicular ectopia: A case report.

An uncommon congenital abnormality known as crossed testicular ectopia (CTE) or transverse testicular ectopia (TTE) occurs when both testes migrate into the same hemiscrotum. Inguinal hernia and persistent Müllerian duct syndrome are frequently associated with it. We present a case of "TTE" in a 1-year-old boy with an empty right hemiscrotum and left inguinal hernia.

Assessing the spatial scale of synchrony in forest tree population dynamics.

Populations of forest trees exhibit large temporal fluctuations, but little is known about the synchrony of these fluctuations across space, including their sign, magnitude, causes and characteristic scales. These have important implications for metapopulation persistence and theoretical community ecology. Using data from permanent forest plots spanning local, regional and global spatial scales, we measured spatial synchrony in tree population growth rates over sub-decadal and decadal timescales and explored the relationship of synchrony to geographical distance.

Fertility preservation (FP) is critical for those members of the transgender community who desire biological offspring in the future. As gender-affirming hormone therapy and gender-affirming surgeries (GASs) negatively affect future fertility potential, awareness amongst care providers and the transgender population regarding FP and family-building options is the need of the hour. As the first case of childbirth after transgender FP and GAS in India, this will be a beacon of hope for transgender family-building options in India.

Validity and reliability of the new NIMHANS intellectual disability screening instrument (NID-Screener) for children and adolescents in India.

Introduction: There is a gap in tools specifically designed for assessing Intellectual Disability (ID) in Indian settings. To address this, the NIMHANS intellectual disability screening instrument (NID-Screener) was developed by the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences.

Methods: Ten non experts/language and ten experts rated face and content validity of NID-Screener respectively.

Objectives: This study aims to assess the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) among the Irula tribes and to know the factors influencing quality of life among the elderly irula tribes of Tamil Nadu.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the Northern district of Tamil Nadu, including 486 Irula individuals aged 65 and above. Participants were selected using a multistage sampling method.

Visualizations of mass shooting incidents in the United States appearing in the media can influence people's beliefs and attitudes. However, different data sources each use their own definition of mass shootings, resulting in varying counts and trends of these incidents across the sources. To investigate the effects of these varying definitions on public perceptions, we conducted a crowdsourced study using data from four sources-Mother Jones, Mass Shooter Database, Everytown for Gun Safety, and The Washington Post.

Background: High prevalence of metabolic abnormalities and poor bone health in ethnic minorties may stem from differences in body composition and alterations in endocrine milieu. South Asian Indians (SAIs) are at greater risk for metabolic syndrome (MetS) and poor bone health than Caucasians. Often these differences are reported later in life and/or in a resident immigrant population compared to a Caucasian population.

Mapping the oral resistome: a systematic review.

Studying individual ecological niches within the oral cavity is a logical first step to understanding the distribution of antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs); however, it is not representative of the whole oral resistome. The aim of our systematic review was to provide a map of the oral resistome by reviewing the composition of individual niches. A total of 580 papers were retrieved from a search of all English language publications investigating the presence of oral ARGs in five electronic databases between January 2015 and August 2023.
