Sleep is an integral and vital component of human life, contributing significantly to overall health and well-being, but a considerable number of people worldwide experience sleep disorders. Sleep disorder diagnosis heavily depends on accurately classifying sleep stages. Traditionally, this classification has been performed manually by trained sleep technologists that visually inspect polysomnography records.

We report a measurement of exclusive J/ψ and ψ(2s) photoproduction in Au+Au ultraperipheral collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200  GeV using the STAR detector. For the first time, (i) the ψ(2s) photoproduction in midrapidity at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider has been experimentally measured; (ii) nuclear suppression factors are measured for both the coherent and incoherent J/ψ production. At average photon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 25.

The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is a key reaction in the production of green hydrogen by water electrolysis. In alkaline media, the current state of the art catalysts used for the OER are based on non-noble metal oxides. However, despite their huge potential as OER catalysts, these materials exhibit various disadvantages including lack of stability and conductivity that hinder the wide-spread utilization of these materials in alkaline electrolyzer devices.

Proclination of anteriors is significantly found in developing malocclusions and affecting both aesthetics and function. In patients with protrusions or crowding, extraction therapy is often necessary. Orthodontic treatment is initiated with the extraction of maxillary first premolars to address the protrusions or crowding and achieve a harmonious occlusion.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a devastating neurodegenerative disease characterized by abnormal accumulation of tau proteins and amyloid-β, leading to neuronal death and cognitive impairment. Recent studies have implicated aging pathways, including dysregulation of tau and cellular senescence in AD pathogenesis. In AD brains, tau protein, which normally stabilizes microtubules, becomes hyperphosphorylated and forms insoluble neurofibrillary tangles.

According to the mounting evidence in the literature, pro-inflammatory mediators/targets activate multiple signalling pathways to trigger illnesses that are ultimately responsible for acute pain, chronic inflammatory diseases, and several auto-immune disorders. Conventional drugs have been ruled out since proteolysis-targeting chimeras (PROTACs) are poised to overcome the limitations of traditional therapies. These heterobifunctional molecules help to degrade the targeted proteins of interest through ubiquitination.

Background: Neuropathic pain is a complex chronic condition resulting from the damage or dysfunction of the nervous system. Conventional therapies offer limited success and often come with various adverse effects. Therefore, the exploration of alternative therapies, such as phytoconstituents, may be of substantial interest for their potential to alleviate neuropathic pain.

Plasma-derived extracellular vesicles (pEVs) are a potential source of diseased biomarker proteins. However, characterizing the pEV proteome is challenging due to its relatively low abundance and difficulties in enrichment. This study presents a streamlined workflow to identify EV proteins from cancer patient plasma using minimal sample input.

Purpose: To compare the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of lifitegrast 5% versus carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) 0.5% in adult patients with dry eye disease (DED).

Methods: A total of 370 eligible patients with DED were randomized equally to receive twice-daily doses of a single drop in each eye of either lifitegrast 5% or CMC 0.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being applied to wastewater treatment to enhance efficiency, improve processes, and optimize resource utilization. This review focuses on objectives, advantages, outputs, and major findings of various AI models in the three key aspects: the prediction of removal efficiency for both organic and inorganic pollutants, real-time monitoring of essential water quality parameters (such as pH, COD, BOD, turbidity, TDS, and conductivity), and fault detection in the processes and equipment integral to wastewater treatment. The prediction accuracy ( value) of AI technologies for pollutant removal has been reported to vary between 0.

Objective: The potential association between diabetic retinopathy (DR) worsening and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA) has affected therapeutic management of diabetic patients but remains controversial. This study compared rates of DR development or progression in patients on GLP-1RA to those on SGLT-2 inhibitors (SGLT-2I).

Design: Retrospective cohort study.

Background: Efforts to eliminate visceral leishmaniasis in India mainly consist of early detection and treatment of cases and indoor residual spraying with insecticides to kill the phlebotomine sandfly Phlebotomus argentipes that transmits the causative Leishmania protozoa. In this modelling study, we aimed to estimate the effect of indoor residual spraying (IRS) on vector abundance and transmission of visceral leishmaniasis in India.

Methods: In this time-series analysis and modelling study, we assessed the effect of IRS on vector abundance by using indoor vector-abundance data (from 2016 to 2022) and IRS quality-assurance data (from 2017-20) from 50 villages in eight endemic blocks in India where IRS was implemented programmatically.

Background: Neurolotic sequelae after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) can cause significant morbidity and mortality. Transcranial Doppler (TCD) imaging can show real-time high intensity transient signals (HITS), which reflect active microembolization. Although it is well known that intraprocedural microembolism occurs, it is not known if this embolic phenomenon continues in the postprocedural period.

Herbal remedies have demonstrated remarkable effects as anti-diabetic, anticancer, antimicrobials, immunological modulatory agent in liver problems, respiratory illnesses, and as beauty agents. The need for more affordable, readily accessible, and alternative medicines has led to a rise in the recognition of herbal drugs. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of photosensitized curcumin fibers, Aloevera, Amla Juice and Pancha Tulsi in disinfecting guttapercha (GP) cones.

Stress and anxiety may be found in patients with oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF), oral leukoplakia (OL) and oral lichen planus (OLP). Cortisol, sometimes referred to as the "stress hormone," has been employed as a stress predictor. Therefore, it is of interest to estimate the levels of depression, anxiety and serum cortisol and establish correlation between them in patients with OL.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic kidney disease (CKD) significantly raises the risk of infections, contributing to increased illness and death rates, and this study focuses on understanding this issue in CKD patients in North India.
  • Conducted at a medical institute over almost two years, the study involved 248 CKD patients with infections, revealing common infections like pneumonia and urinary tract infections, and a high in-hospital mortality rate of 33.5%.
  • The research highlights the atypical presentation of infections in these patients and underscores the need for effective management strategies, especially for those with low Glasgow coma scale scores, to improve survival outcomes.

Background: Women remain underrepresented in gastroenterology (GI). Studies have identified that a lack of formal mentorship for women contributes to this underrepresentation. While many GI divisions have adopted models for supporting GI fellows and faculty, there is a gap in our knowledge regarding mentorship options for internal medicine (IM) residents interested in GI.
