Premise Of The Study: Tea Unigene-derived MicroSatellite (TUGMS) markers were identified from the publicly available EST data in Camellia sinensis for characterization and future genome mapping studies in tea.

Methods And Results: One hundred twelve novel TUGMS markers were identified from 4356 unigenes derived by clustering of 12788 random ESTs in C. sinensis.

Drug resistance among Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates from private clinics and a dots center in Delhi, India.

The aim of this study was to ascertain the incidence of drug resistance of Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates from patients in Delhi, India, being treated with DOTS and in private clinics, since a large proportion of patients with tuberculosis in India seek help from private healthcare sectors. Sputum samples were collected from 60 cases of tuberculosis attending a DOTS center and 42 patients from private clinics. Of these, 35 patients from the DOTS center and 12 patients from private clinics had a second sputum sample collected following two months of therapy.

A series of 4(3H)-quinozolone derivatives were screened for two-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship studies and subsequently their absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) properties with the use of soft modeling techniques after selecting suitable descriptors for molecular structure. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed for this study.

A matrix micropatterning platform for cell localization and stem cell fate determination.

To study the role of cell-extracellular matrix (ECM) interactions, microscale approaches provide the potential to perform high throughput assessment of the effect of the ECM microenvironment on cellular function and phenotype. Using a microscale direct writing (MDW) technique, we characterized the generation of multicomponent ECM microarrays for cellular micropatterning, localization and stem cell fate determination. ECMs and other biomolecules of various geometries and sizes were printed onto epoxide-modified glass substrates to evaluate cell attachment by human endothelial cells.

Subsequently, nucleophilic attack by semicarbazide on the carbonyl carbon gives 2-substituted 3-carbamido 4(3H) quinazolones, which gives final compound with appropriate substitution.

A retrospective analysis of first metatarsophalangeal joint fusion in 26 consecutive patients (34 feet), treated between April 1998 and February 2002, comparing single compression screw versus a compression screw supplemented with a dorsal quarter tubular plate, was undertaken. The study aimed to assess whether or not plate augmentation of the single interfragmental compression screw lead to an earlier fusion. There were 18 women and 8 men with a mean age of 54.

Forearm rotational profile in obstetric brachial plexus injury.

Children with obstetric brachial plexus palsy (OBPP) most commonly have weakness of supination. There is little previous information on later progress of forearm rotation movements, although severe supination contracture has been reported in a small proportion of children. The aims of this study were to evaluate forearm rotation after initial recovery from OBPP, to define the relationship with the severity of disease, and to assess which factors might limit rotation.

Method: A prospective evaluation of the ADRs reported in the Department of Medicine of our University Teaching Hospital over a period of 4-months was conducted.

Results: During the study period, a total of 600 patients visited the Medicine OPD and 122 ADRs were reported.

Outcome of Girdlestone's resection arthroplasty following complications of proximal femoral fractures.

Twenty two patients who underwent a Girdlestone resection arthroplasty of the hip (pseudarthrosis coxae) following failed operative treatment for hip trauma from 1993 to 2002 were retrospectively reviewed. The indications included failed osteosynthesis of fractures of the neck of the femur (n=8), septic hemiarthroplasty (n=9), aseptic loosening of hemiarthroplasty (n=3) and recurrent dislocation of a hemiarthroplasty (n=2). Prolactin promotes growth of a spontaneous T cell lymphoma: role of tumor and host derived cytokines.

The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of prolactin (PRL) on the progressive growth of a T cell lymphoma. Using a murine model of a transplantable T cell lymphoma, designated as the Dalton's lymphoma (DL) it is shown that in vivo administration of PRL to tumor bearing mice reduces the survival duration of tumor-bearing host due to an augmentation of tumor growth. In vitro studies demonstrated that PRL directly stimulates the proliferation of DL cells in a dose and time dependent manner.

Pigmented villonodular synovitis of the foot and ankle: Forty years of experience from the Scottish bone tumor registry.

Fourteen cases of pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) of the foot and ankle accrued from the Scottish Bone Tumor Registry are presented with an average follow-up of 4.6 years. This study analyzed the clinical, radiological, and histopathological features and investigated their clinical behavior and the factors influencing recurrence.
