Lung injury in preterm infants leads to structural and functional respiratory deficits, with a risk for bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) that in its most severe form is accompanied by pulmonary hypertension (PH). To examine cellular and molecular dynamics driving evolving BPD in humans, we performed single-cell RNA sequencing of preterm infant lungs in early stages of BPD and BPD+PH compared to term infants. Analysis of the endothelium revealed a unique aberrant capillary cell-state primarily in BPD+PH marked by expression.

Objectives: This study assess the feasibility of integrating virtual reality (VR) simulation into the central venous catheter (CVC) placement training curriculum.

Design: The study consists of 3 parts: (1) Evaluating current manikin-based training for CVC placement through surveys for senior first-year anesthesia residents and cardiac anesthesia faculty who supervise resident performing the procedure; (2) Interventional study training novice trainees with VR simulator and assessing their reaction satisfaction; and (3) pilot study integrating VR training sessions into CVC training curriculum for first-year anesthesia residents.

The incorporation of 3D imaging into diagnostic and interventional echocardiography has rapidly expanded in recent years. Applications such as multiplanar reconstruction that were once considered research tools and required off-cart analysis can now readily be performed at the point of image acquisition and in real-time during live image acquisition for procedural guidance. While the application and quality of 3D images have significantly improved in recent years, there remains a noticeable lag in the evolution of artificial intelligence that would further simplify the interpretative processes, both during live sessions and offline analyses.

Dicamba is a semivolatile herbicide that has caused widespread unintentional damage to vegetation due to its volatilization from genetically engineered dicamba-tolerant crops. Strategies to reduce dicamba volatilization rely on the use of formulations containing amines, which deprotonate dicamba to generate a nonvolatile anion in aqueous solution. Dicamba volatilization in the field is also expected to occur after aqueous spray droplets dry to produce a residue; however, dicamba speciation in this phase is poorly understood.

Background: High sodium and low potassium intake are positively associated with blood pressure, a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The mean intake of sodium among United States adults exceeds the chronic disease risk reduction level of 2300 mg/d, whereas potassium intake remains lower than the recommended levels. Invasive procedures are associated with adverse events that are both hazardous to patients and expensive to treat. A trainee is expected to perform complex sterile invasive procedures in a dynamic environment under time pressure while maintaining patient safety at the highest standard of care.
