Chemogenetics enables precise, non-invasive, and reversible modulation of neural activity via the activation of engineered receptors that are pharmacologically selective to endogenous or exogenous ligands. With recent advances in therapeutic gene delivery, chemogenetics is poised to support novel interventions against neuropsychiatric diseases and disorders. To evaluate its translational potential, we performed a scoping review of applications of chemogenetics that led to the reversal of molecular and behavioral deficits in studies relevant to neuropsychiatric diseases and disorders.

Novel SARS-CoV-2 variants are emerging at an alarming rate. The delta variant and other variants of concern (VoC) carry spike (S)-protein mutations, which have the potential to evade protective immunity, to trigger break-through infections after COVID-19 vaccination, and to propagate future waves of COVID-19 pandemic. To identify SARS CoV-2 variants in Bangladesh, patients who are RT-PCR-positive for COVID-19 infections in Dhaka were screened by a RT-PCR melting curve analysis for spike protein mutations.

In livestock, selection programs on reproductive traits are time consuming due to long generation interval and low heritability; however understanding the genetic factors that influence reproductive performance facilitates an accurate selection and genetic improvement of these quantitative traits. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify the effect of lactation order and polymorphisms of FGFBP1, leptin, κ-casein, and αs1-casein genes on reproductive performance in dromedary she-camels. Blood samples were collected from one hundred she-camels using vacutainer tube containing EDTA as an anticoagulant for DNA extraction.

Article Synopsis
  • - The 2019 dengue outbreak in Bangladesh showed a shift in clinical symptoms, especially an increase in gastrointestinal (GIT) symptoms and hypotension compared to previous outbreaks.
  • - A study conducted in Dhaka reviewed 553 confirmed cases and found that the majority were male with an average age of 27; fever was present in all cases, alongside significant instances of abdominal pain and vomiting.
  • - Compared to earlier outbreaks in 2008, 2016, and 2018, there was a noted rise in GIT symptoms while hemorrhagic manifestations such as rash and bleeding decreased in frequency.

Background: There are few published data on the role of vitamin D concentrations during pregnancy in sub-Saharan Africa. Thus, the aim of the current study was to investigate the association between 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH)]D) levels and pre-eclampsia.

Method: A case-control study, with 60 women in each arm, was conducted in Medani Hospital in Sudan.

To evaluate the persistence and factors associated with sleep disturbances among COVID-19 patients with a history of sleep disturbances 2 months after discharge from the hospital. A total of 400 patients admitted at Dhaka Medical College Hospital during July and August were diagnosed as suffering from sleep disturbances during their hospital stay using a standardized scale. They were followed up 2 months later through telephone, and a total of 322 participants were interviewed (excluding 63 nonresponders and five deceased) regarding the persistence of disturbances in sleep through a structured questionnaire.

Background: The safety of health care workers (HCWs) in Bangladesh and the factors associated with getting COVID-19 have been infrequently studied. The aim of this study was to address this gap by assessing the capacity development and safety measures of HCWs in Bangladesh who have been exposed to COVID-19 and by identifying the factors associated with respondents' self-reported participation in capacity development trainings and their safety practices.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was based on an online survey of 811 HCWs working at 39 dedicated COVID-19 hospitals in Bangladesh.

Background: is a zoonotic obligatory intracellular protozoan parasite that infects a wide range of warm-blooded species. This study aimed to obtain further information on the role of infection in ruminant abortion (sheep, goats and cattle) using bioassay and PCR methods in Mazandaran province, northern Iran.

Methods: Overall, 104 aborted fetuses (52 bovine, 48 ovine, 4 caprine) were collected at different stages of gestation during the lambing seasons in various parts of Mazandaran Province from Mar 2016 to May 2017.

Kesterite CuZnSnSe (CZTSe), CuZnSn(S,Se) (CZTSSe), and CuZnSnS (CZTS) solar cells show considerably lower open-circuit voltages than their theoretical values. The large open-circuit voltage deficiency () hinders the improvement of the power conversion efficiency (PCE) and the development of the pathway to mass production of kesterite solar cells. The main reason behind the is considered to be the low formation energy of Cu/Zn disorders and their highly distributed defect complexes.

The outbreak of the current coronavirus disease (COVID-19) occurred in late 2019 and quickly spread all over the world. The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) belongs to a genetically diverse group that mutates continuously leading to the emergence of multiple variants. Although a few antiviral agents and anti-inflammatory medicines are available, thousands of individuals have passed away due to emergence of new viral variants.

Coronavirus Disease 19 (COVID-19) has led to a global pandemic and has been the center of attention across the entire medical community. This novel virus was initially thought to affect primarily the respiratory system, but now it is evident that it has a multitude of effects on the human body. Our point of interest is to establish the effect of COVID-19 infection on the conducting system of the heart.

Many people living in modern society feel like they do not have enough time and are constantly searching for more. But is having limited discretionary time actually detrimental? And can there be downsides of having too much discretionary time? In two large-scale data sets spanning 35,375 Americans and two experiments, we explore the relationship between the amount of discretionary time individuals have and their subjective well-being. We find and internally replicate a negative quadratic relationship between discretionary time and subjective well-being.

Drug safety assures the effectiveness, safety, and security of drugs, vaccines, and other biologicals to protect public health. Medication-related errors coupled with unjudicial medication practices often cause a catastrophic impact on the healthcare system globally. The present study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of physicians toward pharmacovigilance and barriers to adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting at tertiary care hospitals in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, Pakistan.

Worldwide, nitrogen (N) deficiency is the main yield limiting factor owing to its losses via leaching and volatilization. Urease inhibitors slow down urea hydrolysis in soil by inhibiting urease enzyme activities whereas gibberellic acid is growth regulator. That is why, we evaluated the role of urease inhibitor [N-(n-butyl)thiophosphorictriamide (NBPT)] and gibberellic acid (GA) in improving nitrogen uptake and yield of maize under different N levels (120 and 150 kg ha) along with control.

Genomic imprinting is an epigenetic marking process that results in the monoallelic expression of a subset of genes. Many of these 'imprinted' genes in mice and humans are involved in embryonic and extraembryonic growth and development, and some have life-long impacts on metabolism. During mammalian development, the genome undergoes waves of (re)programming of DNA methylation and other epigenetic marks.

The electron blocking layer (EBL) plays a vital role in blocking the electron overflow from an active region in the AlGaN-based deep-ultraviolet light-emitting diode (DUV-LED). Besides the blocking of electron overflow, EBL reduces hole injection toward the active region. In this work, we proposed a DUV nanowire (NW) LED structure without EBL by replacing it with a compositionally continuous graded hole source layer (HSL).

The detection of biological RNA from sputum has a comparatively poor positive rate in the initial/early stages of discovering COVID-19, as per the World Health Organization. It has a different morphological structure as compared to healthy images, manifested by computer tomography (CT). COVID-19 diagnosis at an early stage can aid in the timely cure of patients, lowering the mortality rate.
