Assessing the embryotoxicity and teratogenicity of various substances and processes is crucial due to their complexity and resource intensity. The chicken embryo (CE) serves an ideal model for simulating the first months of mammalian embryonic development. This makes the CE a reliable model for testing teratogenic effects, particularly in relation to the nervous system (NS), which experiences developmental abnormalities second in frequency only to cardiovascular teratogenic disorders.

Detergents and disinfectants for dairy industry must meet a variety of characteristics, including low toxicity, high antibacterial activity, and excellent rinsing of pollutants from working surfaces. This work presents an innovative detergent-disinfectant agent based on whey mineralizate and silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs), which allows reducing production costs and ensuring high cleanliness of treated surfaces compared to analogues. For this purpose, a method for obtaining sols of Ag NPs stabilized with didecyldimethylammonium bromide (Ag NPs-DDAB) was developed and optimized using neural network algorithms.

Introduction: The influence of chitosan's physicochemical characteristics on the functionality of lactic acid bacteria and the production of lactic acid remains very obscure and contradictory to date. While some studies have shown a stimulatory effect of oligochitosans on the growth of Lactobacillus spp, other studies declare a bactericidal effect of chitosan. The lack and contradiction of knowledge prompted us to study the effect of chitosan on the growth and productivity of in the presence of chitosan and its derivatives.

This study discovered and examined novel triple chelate complexes involving iron, ascorbic acid, and essential amino acids (AsA-Fe-AmA triple chelate complexes) for the first time. The mechanism of complex formation was studied using FTIR spectroscopy and quantum chemical modeling. The produced complexes were shown to be suitable for fortifying food items with a pH of 3-7 that have not been exposed to heat treatment at temperatures over 75 °C for more than 15 min.

This study aimed to synthesize, characterize, and evaluate the effect of cocamidopropyl betaine-stabilized MnO nanoparticles (NPs) on the germination and development of pea seedlings. The synthesized NPs manifested as aggregates ranging from 50-600 nm, comprising spherical particles sized between 19 to 50 nm. These particles exhibited partial crystallization, indicated by peaks at 2θ = 25.

Introduction: Open globe injuries (OGI) represent a main preventable reason for blindness and visual impairment, particularly in developing countries. The goal of this study is evaluating key variables affecting the prognosis of open globe injuries and validating internally and comparing different machine learning models to estimate final visual acuity.

Materials And Methods: We reviewed three hundred patients with open globe injuries receiving treatment at Khatam-Al-Anbia Hospital in Iran from 2020 to 2022.

Background: Communication is a basic need of humans. Identifying factors that prevent effective nurse-patient communication allows for the better implementation of necessary measures to modify barriers. This study aims to compare the barriers to effective nurse-patient communication from the perspectives of nurses and patients in COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 wards.

Gout, or hyperuricemia is a multifactorial and multi-faceted metabolic disease that is quite difficult to manage and/or treat. Conventional therapies such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as allopurinol, corticosteroids and colchicine amongst others, have helped in its management and treatment to some extent. This study aimed to compile and analyze the different herbal remedies used in the management of hyperuricemia and gout.

Background: Bacterial persisters are non- or slow-growing phenotypic variants that may be responsible for recalcitrance and relapse of persistent infections and antibiotic failure. In Escherichia coli, mqsRA is a well-known type II toxin-antitoxin system associated with persister cell formation. This study aimed to investigate the efficiency of an antisense peptide nucleic acid (PNA) targeting mqsRA in eliminating E.

Addressing the challenges of chemodynamic therapies (CDTs) relying on Fenton reactions in malignant tumors is an active research area. Here, we report a method to develop pH-responsive hybrid nanoparticles for enhanced chemodynamic tumor treatment. Reactive CaO nanoparticles (core) are isolated by biocompatible ZIF-8 doped with Fe (shell), and then encapsulated by macrophage membranes (symbolized as CaO@Fe-ZIF-8@macrophage membrane or CFZM), thus endowed with high stability under normal physiological conditions.

Selenium nanoparticles (Se NPs) have a number of unique properties that determine the use of the resulting nanomaterials in various fields. The focus of this paper is the stabilization of Se NPs with cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC). Se NPs were obtained by chemical reduction in an aqueous medium.

Choroid is a tissue with a very high blood flow which is a metabolic supporter of the retina. Recently, the study of choroidal blood flow in ocular and systemic disorders is a hot topic in scientific research. With the advent of enhanced depth imaging OCT (EDI-OCT), it is possible to measure the entire choroidal thickness.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed the humoral immune response to COVID-19 vaccines in individuals infected with HTLV-1 in northeastern Iran over nearly a year.
  • It involved 86 HTLV-1 positive individuals and 90 matched seronegative controls, revealing that those with HTLV-1 had significantly lower antibody responses to the vaccines, even after 2 or 3 doses.
  • The findings suggest that people living with HTLV-1 demonstrate a reduced immune response to COVID-19 vaccination, particularly among those displaying specific symptoms of the disease.

Purpose: To investigate foveal changes in infants with ROP not requiring treatment(nROP) and ROP infants needing treatment (tROP) using a handheld SD-OCT device.

Method: We performed horizontal SD-OCT scans through the fovea in 156 eyes of 81 infants diagnosed with ROP. Foveal immaturity indices including the presence of inner retinal layers (IRL), absence of foveal outer nuclear layers widening (ONL) and attenuation of hyperreflective outer segment layers (OS), presence and type of cystoid macular edema (CME), epiretinal membrane (ERM), foveal pit depth (FPD), foveal pit width (FPW) and central foveal thickness (CFT) were calculated.

Key Clinical Message: Infiltrative optic neuropathy in hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis is rare but could potentially lead to visual loss. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) optic neuritis, drug toxicity, and CNS involvement with increased intracranial pressure (ICP) are differential diagnoses that have to be considered.

Abstract: In this report, we introduced a known case of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) with progressive visual loss due to bilateral optic nerve head (ONH) involvement.
