Electronic and magnetic properties of Mn-doped BeSiAs(2) and BeGeAs(2) compounds.

The structural, electronic and magnetic properties of BeSiAs(2) and BeGeAs(2) chalcopyrite ternary compounds doped with manganese were investigated by means of ab initio calculations. It was found that substitution of Be atoms by Mn increases the lattice constants of both compounds that provide acceptable mismatch with conventional Si, Ge and GaAs substrates. In spite of the increase of the spin polarization upon doping, both compounds possess antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering with the impurity in the group II position whereas ferromagnetic (FM) ordering is obtained in the case of an impurity in the group IV position.

[A method of suturing the operation wound in patients with obesity].

A method of multistoried closing the wound with the help of 2-4 adapting horizontal mattress sutures onto the subcutaneous fatty tissue and one suture onto the skin was used in 58 patients with the III degree of obesity for suturing the postoperative wound in the area of the frontal abdominal wall. No specific complications resulting from the used technique of suturing the wound were noted. Long-term results of treatment showed a good cosmetic effect.

[A model of a long functioning drainage catheter].

The model of a long functioning tube was used in 98 patients with abscesses, phlegmons, suppurating hematomas and diffuse purulent peritonitis. The tube had a purifying device in its lumen as a small bead used for permanent destruction of the fibrin clot in the tube lumen in the postoperative period. It allowed maintenance of its patency for the limitless duration.

[Surgical correction of flatfoot].

The article presents results of treatment of 76 patients with transverse platypodia and the outward aberration of the first toe. In 55 of the patients (72.4%) plasty of the transverse fornix of the foot either with a vascular prosthesis or with a lavsan band was fulfilled parallel with the clinoid resection of the head of the first metatarsus.

[Combined treatment of purulent-necrotic lesions of lower extremities in diabetic patients].

Combined treatment of pyonecrotic focus and purulent see pages on foot by means of permanent abacterial medium creation was performed in 38 patients with decompensated diabetic ischemia of lower extremities. 2% boric acid was used as antiseptic (affected foot was immersed in the solution). Local use of this medium during 7-10 days with sodium succinate and other modern drugs administration permits to decrease lethality to 7.

[Active drainage of the abdominal cavity in diffuse purulent peritonitis].

The method of active drainage of the abdominal cavity and of the gastrointestinal tract lumen for acute peritonitis described by the author is based on the intraabdominal cyclic compression-decompression method of action on the organs and tissues of the abdominal cavity using 2-4 hermetically sealed rubber gloves distended with the help of a respiratory system in the uninterrupted regimen of work during 2-3 days. The method was used in 24 patients. Six patients died.

[Method of the anterior resection of the rectum with formation of invagination colorectal anastomosis].

In order to prevent complications associated with incompetent sutures of the anastomosis in performing frontal resection of the rectum the invaginational immersion of the one-row catgut interintestinal anastomosisis was performed into the lumen of the inferioampullar portion of the rectum to a depth of 15-20 mm by means of traction by a plastic ring which was fixed when applying the anastomosis on the side of its lumen to the suture knots. The method was used in 12 patients without complications due to incompetence of the anastomosis sutures.

[Treatment of giant postoperative hernias].

Modified hernial ring plasty leading to significant improvement of treatment result was used in 48 patients. Lethality was 2.1%, suppuration of the postoperative wound was seen in 16.

[Fiber fasciotomy in Dupuytren's contracture].

42 patients with hand Dupuytren's contracture were operated. Transection of each finger scar cords was performed in transverse direction through 3-8 skin punctures from proximal portion to distal segment in the zone of middle phalanx base. In addition, complete finger extension was achieved on operating table.

[Surgical treatment of coccygodynia].

The data on surgical treatment of 53 patients who suffered from posttraumatic coccygoynia are presented. To prevent suppuration of the postoperative wound the incision of the skin was performed not nearer that 5-6 cm from the anus and was directed proximally. The coccyx has been removed without injury of longitudinal sacro-coccygeal ligament.

[The detoxifying action of peritoneal dialysis in experimental acute diffuse peritonitis].

The use of fatty substances (cod-liver oil and fatty emulsions) in association with streaming and dropping dialyzing solutions injection every 4 h have permitted to increase the peritoneal dialysis duration at the acute common peritonitis up to 5 days (the method was proposed by A. [Closed excochleation with filling using perifocal spongy bone of the foci of lytic dystrophic bone tissue reorganization in the femoral and tibial condyles in knee joint arthritis and arthrosis].

Closed excochleation of foci of lytic-degenerative lesion of condyles of the femoral and tibial bones was included in the system of medical measures in treatment of 29 patients with an arthritis and arthrosis of the knee joint. This treatment gave rapid recovery. Terms of the observation of the patients was from 1 to 6 years.

[The use of emulsified fatty substances for the treatment of acute peritonitis and adhesions of the abdominal cavity].

In the experiment on 49 animals, including 29 with modelled acute peritonitis the anticommissural effect of emulsified fatty substances was studied. In introduction into the abdominal cavity, the substances studied had no toxic effect, caused no embolism, abscesses and adhesions. The method was successfully used in the clinic in 25 patients.

[The effect of ubiquinone-10 on the development of D-galactosamine-induced hepatitis in rats].

It has been shown that prophylactic administration of ubiquinone protects rats liver from the toxic damage by D-galactosamine both on ultrastructural and on cell levels. Ubiquinone administration prevents necrosis in hepatocytes and preserves their ability for compensatory reactions expressed in activation of protein-synthesis regulating structures in the cell. Ubiquinone decreases hyperfermentemia and hyperbilirubinemia as well as prevents the decrease in liver protein content caused by galactosamine.

[The intercellular interactions in the interphase death of irradiated thymocytes. A study of the influence of different cells on thymocyte interphase death].

The influence of different cells on death and pycnosis of thymocyte nuclei after in vitro irradiation has been investigated. It has been shown that the removal from the thymocyte suspension of cells, having the activity of natural killers, medullar thymocytes, and macrophages, does not influence the radiation-induced damage to cortical thymocytes. The injury of exposed thymocytes decreases, however, after incubation them with nonirradiated thymocytes or cultured cells, the efficiency of the latter being dependent on the type of cells.

[The excitation of the fibers of the funiculus dorsalis medullae spinalis during the stimulation of different groups of cutaneous and muscle nerve fibers in the cat].

Electric stimulation of various groups of fibres of cutaneous and muscle nerve of cat has been studied for its effect on action potentials in the gray dorsal column fibres, Registration was performed at the level L2--L3 from ipsi- and contralateral dorsal columns, using needle electrodes. Action potentials of dorsal columns, arisen by stimulation of cutaneous nerves, had a more complex form than those of stimulated muscle nerves. Nonmyelinated fibres of a cutaneous nerve are shown to relate to those of dorsal columns.

[Oblique-angled incision of the skin].

The results of using an obliquely-splitting incision of the skin in 105 patients were studied. A good cosmetic effect without the formation of a coarse scar elevated above the skin surface was produced in all of them. It was achieved due to preservation of the tissue trophics.

[Morphofunctional features of the thyroid gland in patients with diffuse toxic goiter].

A study was made of the morphometric, ultrastructural and functional features of the thyroid in patients with diffuse toxic goiter (DTG) (women aged 16 to 12) with positive and negative dynamics of body mass (groups 1 and 2, respectively). Proliferation of the thyroid epithelium, detected in DTG patients of the 1st group, can be regarded as a morphological criterion for making a decision of a necessity of surgical intervention.

[Combined morphologic criteria in the diagnosis of thyroid diseases].

The use of scanning and translucent electron microscopy, morphometry with the automatic system of analysis in the study of thyroid in patients with nodular euthyroid goiter, diffuse toxic goiter and papillary carcinoma, aged from 27 to 52 years, allowed us to establish the complex of morphologic criteria (qualitative and quantitative) on the cellular and subcellular level, which can be applied for the study of the thyroid under different pathological conditions.

[Age-related morphofunctional characteristics of the adrenal cortical substance when ACTH is administered].

The structural and morphometric features of the adrenocortical substance (ACS) were investigated in adult (5 mos.) and aged (24 mos.) albino male rats during single and prolonged ACTH administration (Synachten-Depot, Ciba).

Effect of enterosorption on animal lifespan.

Experiments were performed on Wistar male rats, starting from the 28th month of age. The effect of dietary sorbent (non coated nitrogen-containing carbon administered as 10 day courses at 1 month intervals in dosage of 10 ml/kg) on lifespan and a number of biological indices were studied. Enterosorption resulted in the increase of mean and maximal lifespan by 43 and 34% respectively.
