Idiopathic intussusception is an important abdominal emergency in infancy and childhood. The nonoperative management by air enema has always been the standard of care in Russia. Our purpose is to assess our reduction rate and the rate of complications.

The work analyses the experience in examination and treatment of 31 patients with late-term complications after operations for various types of acute and chronic high congenital ileus. Five groups of children were set apart according to the character and anatomical cause of the complication. The characteristics of late-term complications, their clinical manifestations, and methods of repeated surgical interventions are given.

A total of 295 children were operated on for severe ileus. The late outcomes of treating 88 children were studied for some months to 18 years. In addition to the routine procedures, the authors used the following: endoscopic stepwise manometry, electromyography, polarography, pH-metry. In some chronic pediatric diseases, manometric, polarographic, electromyographic changes were found to correlate with the similar ones in surgical abnormalities.

The results of 71 Duhamel operation in children with Hirschsprung's disease and idiopathic megacolon are presented. Seven modifications of the operation were used, including those with the use of constant magnets, staplers, without application of the crushing clamps and with leaving a stump of the brought down intestine under the anus. A purposeful choice of a method for completion of the Duhamel operation permits to reduce the number of complications.

Under analysis is the authors' experience with roentgen-endovascular occlusions (REO) in 18 patients with closed injuries of the abdomen with massive hemorrhage. The embolization of spleen vessels was made in 8 patients, hepatic vessels--in 5 patients, renal vessels--in 3 patients and iliac artery branches--in 2 patients. In 10 cases REO was used as an independent method for arrest of hemorrhage and in 8 patients--for the preoperative preparation of the patients.
