Here, we present a novel transcriptome-wide experimental approach to ascertain the presence of accessible double-stranded RNA structures based on sequencing of RNA fragments longer than 18 nucleotides that were not degraded by single-strand cutting nucleases. We applied this approach to four different cell lines with respect to three different treatments (native cell lysate, removal of proteins, and removal of ribosomal RNA and proteins).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe report results of experimental studies of the photoabsorption, photoluminescent and photoelectric properties of a new type of multilayer molecular nanocrystals, consisting of highly ordered J-aggregates of one anionic and two cationic J-aggregates of cyanine dyes. In contrast to conventional J-aggregated dyes the multichromic nanocrystals synthesized in this work, are capable of efficient light absorption in three excitonic bands of the visible and near-IR spectral ranges. The spectral peak positions in the absorption bands can be controlled by appropriately selecting a set of dyes a molecular crystal is made of.

The detection of this gravitational-wave signal, GW170817, offers a novel opportunity to directly probe the properties of matter at the extreme conditions found in the interior of these stars. The initial, minimal-assumption analysis of the LIGO and Virgo data placed constraints on the tidal effects of the coalescing bodies, which were then translated to constraints on neutron star radii.

Methods: We analyzed 476 samples and their control plasma from 368 patients with valvular heart disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, or LVAD therapy, and 27 normal subjects.

This is very rare in Dirac semi-metals, but is expected in clean conventional metallic superconductors with 3D parabolic dispersion relation. The conduction bands in this material exhibit the linear (Dirac) dispersion only along two directions, while in the third direction the dispersion is parabolic.

Early detection of mild pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) based on clinical evaluation and echocardiography remains quite challenging. In addition to enhanced right ventricular (RV) assessment, cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging may accurately reflect deleterious remodeling and increased stiffness of the central pulmonary arteries based on pulsatility, or percent change of the PA during the cardiac cycle. The purpose of this study is to assess the utility of measuring PA pulsatility by CMR as a potential early maker in PAH.

This paper investigates the safety of a novel 'magnetic injection' method of delivering therapy to the cochlea, in a rodent model. In this method of administration, a magnetic field is employed to actively transport drug-eluting superparamagnetic iron-oxide core nanoparticles into the cochlea, where they then release their drug payload (we delivered the steroid prednisolone). Our study design and selection of control groups was based on published regulatory guidance for safety studies that involve local drug delivery.

While general relativity allows for only two tensor gravitational-wave polarizations, general metric theories can additionally predict two vector and two scalar polarizations. The polarization of gravitational waves is encoded in the spectral shape of the stochastic gravitational-wave background, formed by the superposition of cosmological and individually unresolved astrophysical sources.
