Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the link between red blood cell distribution width (RDW) and in-hospital mortality for intensive care patients with acute pancreatitis (AP).
  • RDW was found to be an independent risk factor for in-hospital mortality, showing a comparable predictive value to the BISAP score and even better when combined with other scoring systems like SOFA.
  • Patients with a high RDW had a shorter median survival time, with hazard ratios indicating significantly increased risk of mortality compared to those with low RDW levels.

Objectives: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of high-dose amoxicillin-proton pump inhibitor dual therapy, and to provide a new eradication regimen as a first-line option for patients with infection.

Methods: A total of 971 positive patients who received initial treatment were recruited from March to August 2020, and randomly divided into treatment group and control group. The treatment group received of 20 mg esomeprazole four times daily and 750 mg amoxicillin four times daily for 14 days.

Background: The aim of the current study was to construct prognostic nomograms for individual risk prediction in elderly patients with osteosarcoma.

Methods: Data for 816 elderly patients (≥40 years old) with osteosarcoma between 2004 and 2016 from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database were randomly assigned to training (N=573) and internal validation (N=243) sets. The essential clinical predictors were identified based on least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (Lasso) Cox regression.

Background: The blocking of the programmed cell death protein (PD-1)/programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) axis has been found to have an anticancer activity against various types of cancer by enhancing T cell immunity, while there are no studies linking the PD-1/PD-L1 axis to chemotherapy drugs in osteosarcoma (OS). The present study aimed to investigate the effects of blocking PD-1/PD-L1 axis on the cisplatin chemotherapy in OS in vitro and in vivo.

Methods: Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was applied to detect PD-L1 mRNA in OS tissues.

In the present study, the methylation and protein expression of the runt-related transcription factor 3 () gene was detected in sporadic colorectal cancer, colonic adenoma and normal colon tissue to evaluate their clinical significance in colorectal carcinogenesis. A total of 34 colonic cancer specimens, 34 colonic adenoma specimens and 34 normal colonic tissue specimens were used in the study. The CpG island methylation status of the gene was detected by methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction and the protein expression of Runx3 was detected by immunohistochemistry.
