Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of trifluridine/tipiracil (TAS-102) combined with bevacizumab (BEV) compared to TAS-102 alone in patients with refractory metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) in China.
  • The retrospective cohort study included 90 patients from Hunan Cancer Hospital, who met specific inclusion criteria and underwent treatment between November 2020 and October 2022.
  • Results indicated that the median overall survival (mOS) for the TAS-102 plus BEV group (10.83 months) was longer than that of the TAS-102 monotherapy group (7.43 months), but the difference was not statistically significant.

Background: Managements for refractory proficient mismatch repair (pMMR) or microsatellite stable (MSS) metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) were still challenging and controversial. Our study sought to investigate the efficacy and safety of anti-programmed cell death protein 1 (anti-PD-1) antibodies plus regorafenib in refractory pMMR/MSS mCRC.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the efficacy and safety of 103 pMMR/MSS mCRC patients treated with at least one dose of anti-PD-1 antibodies plus regorafenib (80 mg once daily for 21 days on/7 days off 28 days as a cycle) between July 2019 and June 2021 at the Hunan Cancer Hospital.

Gastric cancer is the third most frequent cancer with high prevalence and mortality globally. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) play a key role in cancer regulation, including gastric cancer. Nevertheless, only a few circRNAs have been well elucidated in gastric cancer.

known as king palm, is an important landscape tree for the subtropics and potential sources of dietary fiber. In this study, the complete chloroplast genome of was determined through Illumina sequencing method. The chloroplast genome was 159,196 bp in length and contained a small single-copy region (17,763 bp), a large single-copy region (87,055 bp) and a pair of IR regions (27,189 bp).

The draft genome sequences of Klebsiella variicola strain KV321, which was isolated from rhizosphere soil of Pisolithus tinctorius-Eucalyptus mycorrhiza, are reported here. The genome sequences contain genes involved in ABC transporter function in multiple-antibiotic drug resistance and colonization. This genomic analysis will help understand the genomic basis of K.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the personal protection capabilities in poison emergencies across various disease control centers in China.
  • Results showed that while 80.70% of institutes had protective equipment, there were significant differences in the range and types of equipment based on the institute's level and economic development.
  • The study highlights advances in personal protection but indicates that current capacities still fall short of what is needed for effective emergency response.

Objective: To establish a comprehensive, easily approached, operated, and searched internet poison databank as to providing professional poison data and knowledge of effective treatment for those consented such as medical staff, and emergency response team in the shortest time.

Methods: We established a computer poison databank, by adopting B/S structure, using SQL Server databank, and explore technology, in which all information may easily be explored and obtained by users.

Results: The database integrated the information in relating to the substances identifiers, physical and chemical properties, toxicology data, clinical manifestation while intoxication, emergency response guides, effective treatment, anything related to the special antidotes, preventive measures, poison analysis, and manufacturers of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, herbs, pesticides, animal, plant, bacteria, fungi, productions and toxins.

This paper describes a new method for extracting and segmenting intracranial structure from serial images of cerebral computerized tomography automatically. A region growing- and morphology-based approach was first developed to extract intracranial structures from the serial images of cerebral computerized tomography, and focusing on the problems of parameter initialization of the expectation maximization (EM) algorithm, an improved EM algorithm based on parameter- limited GMM was presented to segment the intracranial structures successfully. Experimental results of the algorithm showed that this method was effective for all cerebral computerized tomography images from bottom to top of the cerebrum.
