A textile bandwidth-enhanced polarization-reconfigurable half-mode substrate-integrated cavity antenna was designed for wearable applications. A slot was cut out from the patch of a basic textile HMSIC antenna to excite two close resonances to form a wide -10 dB impedance band. The simulated axial ratio curve indicates the linear and circular polarization of the antenna radiation at different frequencies.

Abstract: Numerous outbreak investigations and case-control studies of campylobacteriosis have provided evidence that handling Campylobacter-contaminated chicken products is a high risk factor for infection and illness. In this study, the cross-contamination and transfer rates of Campylobacter jejuni from chicken to ready-to-eat food were determined in various food handling scenarios. Skinless raw chicken breasts were artificially contaminated with C.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze the genetic diversity of MRSA from pigs and retail foods in China, focusing on how the pathogen spreads from animals to food.
  • Seventy-one MRSA isolates were examined through various genetic and susceptibility tests, showing that food-associated MRSA had greater genotypic diversity than pig-associated strains.
  • The predominant clone in pigs was CC9-ST9-t899-MC2236, while a notable clone (CC398-ST398-t034) was found in both groups, highlighting the urgent need for better surveillance and prevention strategies to combat MRSA infections in the food supply.

Laboratory-based pathogen isolation, identification, and toxicity determination were performed on samples from a suspected case of infant botulism. Mice injected with cultures generated from the enema sample and ingested Powered infant formula (PIF) presented typical signs of botulism. Antitoxins to polyvalent botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs) and monovalent BoNT type B antitoxin had protective effects.

We aimed to investigate the potential pathogenic profile and antibiotic resistance of Listeria monocytogenes isolated from ready-to-eat food in China. Antimicrobial resistance was determined by broth microdilution following the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute protocol. Molecular serotyping, virulence, and resistance genes were identified using PCR.

Background: Early embryonic developmental arrest is the most commonly understudied adverse outcome of pregnancy. The relevance of intrauterine infection to spontaneous embryonic death is rarely studied and remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between intrauterine bacterial infection and early embryonic developmental arrest.

Nicotinamide phosphoribosyl transferase (Nampt) is the rate-limiting enzyme for the salvage biosynthesis of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD). Although elevated level of Nampt expression has been observed in various cancers, the involvement of Nampt promoter regulation was not well understood. We have identified a cluster of MEF2 recognition sites upstream of the functional hypoxia response elements (HREs) within the human Nampt promoter, and demonstrated that the two MEF2 sites at -1272 and -1200 were functional to upregulate the promoter activity by luciferase reporter assays.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of suppression of nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT) expression on imatinib-sensitivity in chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) cell line K562 and its mechanisms, NAMPT siRNA was synthesized and transfected into K562 cells. PI/Calcein staining technique was used to determine survival rate of transfected K562 cells at 48th hour after exposure to 1 µmol/L imatinib. MTS method was used to determine the proliferation changes of transfected K562 cell at 48th hour after exposure to different doses of imatinib, then half inhibitory concentration (IC(50)) was calculated.
