Introduction: It is critical to measure the maximum voluntary bite force of patients receiving restorative dentistry. A new device known as "BYTE" has been developed indigenously to measure bite force in humans. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the BYTE device's consistency and accuracy in a lab setting.

Background Dental age estimation plays an enormous role in the determination of an individual's identity and age in forensic and anthropological fields. The estimation of the chronological age of the individual is also important in the diagnosis, treatment planning, and treatment outcomes in the dental field. The third molar has some inimitable characteristics in terms of its size, shape, formation, and long path of eruption and usually erupts after puberty, which seems to be a reliable method of age estimation in adulthood.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the size and shape variations of the sella turcica, a bone structure visible in lateral cephalograms, aimed at developing a new index for gender determination.
  • It analyzed 80 lateral cephalograms from individuals aged 10-30, measuring sella turcica dimensions and introducing a novel Sella Turcica Index (STI).
  • Results showed significant gender-related differences, with higher perimeter and depth in females and a greater mean STI in males, indicating the potential use of STI in forensic identification.

Background: Oral cancer (OC), which happens to be one of the leading causes of death in the Indian population, is caused primarily by tobacco use, although other factors are also responsible. Serum vitamin B12 is important in maintaining the immune system and also repairing the damaged deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) of cells. The aim of our study was to evaluate the serum B12 levels in patients with OC and look for any association between the two.

Objectives: Oral Lichen Planus OLP) is an immune mediated disease and causes oro-mucosal burning sensation that reduces food intake and hence resulting in nutritional deficiency. The present study was done to evaluate the serum levels of vitamin B12 in patients with symptomatic OLP and establish an association between reduced B12 levels and OLP.

Materials And Method: Serum vitamin B12 was assessed in 60 symptomatic cases of oral lichen planus and 60 healthy age and gender matched controls.

Introduction: Osteoporosis is a silent, progressive, and chronic disease affecting bones of the adults, especially postmenopausal women. Its effect on mandibular bone quality has also been described by some authors in men inferring that gender and age are factors that may influence bone mineral density (BMD) and prognosis. The panoramic radiograph is used widely for the early detection of osteoporosis.

Background: Smokeless tobacco (SLT) remains a threat amongst a large population across the globe and particularly in India. Among the 28 known carcinogens in SLT, tobacco-specific nitrosamines are considered to be the most potent and it has been shown to cause immunomodulatory effects making the individual susceptible to various diseases. Immunoglobulins (Ig) form the defense against pathogens at the mucosal surfaces and SLT might interfere with its production and function.

Background: Smokeless tobacco (SLT) usage contributes about 40% of the total tobacco used in India. Among the 28 known carcinogens in SLT, tobacco-specific nitrosamines are considered to be the most potent. This has challenged the metabolic condition leading to a rise in the inflammatory status, hepatic injury, and apoptosis of the liver and thyroid tissues.

Background: Smokeless tobacco (SLT) as a drug substance has been used throughout the world although it has dangerous effects on human health. Among the 28 known carcinogens in SLT, tobacco-specific nitrosamines are considered to be the most potent. This has challenged the metabolic condition leading to a rise in the inflammatory status, increased apoptosis, and red blood cell (RBC) membrane damage.

Aim: The study was designed to evaluate the serum interleukin-8 (IL-8) levels in patients with recurrent aphthous ulcer (RAU) and monitor the immunomodulation and altered IL-8 levels by levamisole before therapy and after levamisole therapy.

Materials And Methods: This study was carried as a randomized case-control study involving a study group of 30 patients diagnosed as RAUs and given levamisole (vermisole 150 mg, od for 1 st 3 days of 3 weeks in a month and for 3 months with a gap of 1 week) and these patients were recalled after 3 months and were subjected for estimation of serum IL-8 levels. Control group had 20 age and sex matched individuals with no systemic illness and were not given any levamisole.

Ossifying fibromas are well-demarcated benign fibro-osseous tumors of craniofacial skeleton most often in the jaws. It has two types, conventional and juvenile ossifying fibroma (JOF). JOF is considered a separate entity from ossifying fibroma due to its locally aggressive behavior and tendency to occur at a young age.
