Background: The rapid evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent global immunization efforts have rendered early metabolomics studies potentially outdated, as they primarily involved non-exposed, non-vaccinated populations. This paper presents a predictive model developed from up-to-date metabolomics data integrated with clinical data to estimate early mortality risk in critically ill COVID-19 patients. Our study addresses the critical gap in current research by utilizing current patient samples, providing fresh insights into the pathophysiology of the disease in a partially immunized global population.

Background: In recent times, the applications of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) beyond kidney-related conditions have been progressively increasing, and its implementation in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) specifically for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has been documented. This meta-analysis compiles all existing RCTs to assess whether CRRT benefits ARDS.

Methods: We searched 12 databases in English and Chinese and two clinical trial centers up to November 28, 2023.

Sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) has a high mortality rate and lacks effective targeted treatment. We applied lipopolysaccharides-induced injury models in human and mouse renal tubular epithelial cells, and at the same time, we selected a commonly used sedative drug, dexmedetomidine, to investigate its potential for renal protection. We found a significant increase in the expression level of HSP90, and the interaction with glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) led to autophagic degradation of GPX4, triggering ferroptosis.
