Background: The epidemiology of sports-related concussion is not well-described in the literature. This paper presents a descriptive epidemiology of concussion in seven high school and collegiate sports.
Methods: We used the data from Concussion Prevention Initiative (CPI), which enrolled 8905 athletes at 210 high schools and 26 colleges in a prospective cohort study of 7 sports (football, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's lacrosse, and men's and women's ice hockey) between 1999 and 2001.
Background: Uptake of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in the United States is slow, and the effectiveness of the vaccine has not been assessed in high-risk adolescent populations.
Methods: We conducted a longitudinal study of 1139 sexually active, inner-city adolescent women receiving the 3-dose quadrivalent (4vHPV) vaccine. Cervical and anal specimens collected semiannually were tested using an L1-specific polymerase chain reaction assay.
This study deals with the elastohydrodynamic coupling that occurs in the flow of a liquid layer down an inclined plane lined with a deformable solid bilayer and its consequences on the stability of the free surface of the liquid layer. The fluid is Newtonian and incompressible, while the linear elastic constitutive relation has been considered for the deformable solid bilayer, and the densities of the fluid and the two solids are kept equal. A temporal linear stability analysis is carried out for this coupled solid-fluid system.

Design: A 5-point Likert-type questionnaire was designed to evaluate the perception of bedside nurses in the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit (PCICU) toward the presence of a 24 hour in-house attending physician.
Setting: Single tertiary referral PCICU in Washington, DC SUBJECTS: The 46 PCICU nurses who participated in the study were separated into two groups based on exposure to the recent implementation of continual in-house attending coverage at our institution.

Purpose: We describe a case of anterior necrotising scleritis secondary to Gemcitabine and Carboplatin chemotherapy agents in a patient with metastatic breast cancer, which has not been previously reported.
Observations: A 50-year-old lady with recurrent metastatic breast cancer presented with unilateral subconjunctival haemorrhage secondary to severe thrombocytopenia eight days following palliative chemotherapy in the form of Gemcitabine and Carboplatin. Twelve days following the initial presentation, the subconjunctival haemorrhage had resolved, however there was evidence of anterior necrotising scleritis with anterior chamber reaction and hypotony with choroidal effusion.
Purpose: Determine the feasibility of a 12-week physical activity intervention for obese, socioculturally diverse endometrial cancer survivors and to evaluate whether the intervention improves physical activity behavior, physical function, waist circumference, and quality of life.
Methods: Obese endometrial cancer survivors from Bronx, NY were assigned to either a 12-week physical activity intervention of behavioral counseling, physical activity and home-based walking (n=25), or wait-list control group (n=15). Mixed-design ANOVA (2 groups×2 time points) were analyzed to determine differences between the intervention and the control for the Yale Physical Activity Survey, six-minute walk test, 30-second chair stand test, waist circumference, and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Endometrial questionnaire.
Background: Cancers constitute a significant public health problem in Nigeria. Breast, cervix and prostate cancers are leading causes of cancer-related deaths. Changing diets, lifestyles, HIV/AIDS and macro-structural factors contribute to cancer morbidity and mortality.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of patients diagnosed with snake envenomation-induced AIN from October 2013 to November 2014.
Results: After snake envenomation, 88 patients developed acute kidney injury (AKI).
Objective: To examine the association of knowledge about human papillomavirus (HPV) on the time to completion of the 3-dose quadrivalent vaccine series in an inner-city population of adolescent female subjects at high risk for infection.
Study Design: We prospectively followed 139 female subjects aged 14-20 years enrolled in a vaccine surveillance study in New York City during a period of at least 24 months. Participants were given a 30-item true or false survey on HPV at enrollment and ranked according to the number of correct responses.
Recent advances in high-throughput methods of molecular analyses have led to an explosion of studies generating large-scale ecological data sets. In particular, noticeable effect has been attained in the field of microbial ecology, where new experimental approaches provided in-depth assessments of the composition, functions and dynamic changes of complex microbial communities. Because even a single high-throughput experiment produces large amount of data, powerful statistical techniques of multivariate analysis are well suited to analyse and interpret these data sets.

Low cardio-respiratory fitness is prevalent in type 2 diabetics. The objectives of the present study was to assess the effect of an exercise on VO2max and HbA1c in type 2 diabetic patient. The baseline VO2max and HbA1c of 30 diabetics were estimated.

Such work has underscored the need for methods that can extract sub-networks that can accurately capture the connectivity patterns of the underlying population while simultaneously describing the variation of sub-networks at the subject level. We have designed a multi-layer graph clustering method that extracts clusters of nodes, called 'network hubs', which display higher levels of connectivity within the cluster than to the rest of the brain.

Here we explored whether observed fecal microbiota and metabolite differences between these two adolescent populations can be used to discriminate between IBS and health.
Findings: We constructed individual microbiota- and metabolite-based sample classification models based on the partial least squares multivariate analysis and then applied a Bayesian approach to integrate individual models into a single classifier.
Background: Shunt or conduit thrombosis in a single ventricle circuit is a life-threatening complication that requires prompt treatment to rapidly restore shunt/conduit patency. Transcatheter interventions represent an attractive alternative to systemic thrombolysis or open surgical procedures. We report our center's experience with catheter-based approaches in patients with palliated single ventricle who present with shunt/conduit thrombosis.

Though prohibited by law, dowry is widely practised, and often contributes to severe injuries and even death of young brides. This study examined the prevalence and risk factors for dowry demand and dowry harassment and its psychosocial correlates across different social strata in India, and also by husband and mother-in-law characteristics.

The impact of NaCl stress (0, 1, 10, 50, 100 and 200 mg L(-1)) as well as glutathione (10 mg L(-1)) either alone or in combination has been evaluated on the induction of multiple shoots, antioxidant enzymes' activity, lipid peroxidation, relative permeability, concentration of nutrients, photosynthetic pigments, protein and proline content of nodal segments of chickpea after 14 days of culture. The antioxidant enzyme activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), guaiacol peroxidase (GPX) and glutathione reductase (GR) were found to be increased under salt stress as well as glutathione-supplemented medium.

Identification of subnetworks of the human connectome can reveal how the network manages an interplay of the seemingly competing principles of functional segregation and integration. Despite the study of subnetworks of the human structural connectome by various groups, the level of expression of these subnetworks in each subject remains for the most part largely unexplored.

We observed the systematic decrease of the magnetic ordering temperature and the resistivity as a function of m. The transition from the semimetal to the insulator is found to be closely linked to the appearance of magnetism at m≃3.
