Background: Pulmonary embolism is associated with a significant burden of morbidity, mortality, and health care costs. Catheter-directed thrombolysis has emerged as a promising option for patients with intermediate-risk pulmonary embolism which aims to improve outcomes over standard anticoagulation.

Methods: We constructed a decision-analytic model comparing the cost-effectiveness of catheter-directed thrombolysis to anticoagulation alone for the management of intermediate-risk pulmonary embolism.

The conversion efficiency of a thermoelectric power generator depends on the dimensionless figure-of-merit (ZT) of the constituent thermoelectric materials, which is mainly determined by their Seebeck coefficient as well as the electrical and thermal conductivity. ZnO holds promise for thermoelectric applications, yet its use is currently limited by low electrical conductivity and high thermal conductivity. Herein, we demonstrate how thermal conductivity of ZnO can be significantly reduced by intelligently combining it with a cellulose-based Ag fabric using a one-step hydrothermal method, and how different ratios of zinc nitrate hexahydrate (ZNH) to hexamethylenetetramine (HMT) can be used to fine-tune the thermoelectric performance of the resulting composite.

Case Presentation: A 52-year-old man with right-sided vague neck pain unresponsive to conservative management had a computed tomography scan that showed a vagal paraganglioma in the carotid sheath surrounding the right carotid arteries and internal jugular vein. Photocatalytic degradation is an excellent method for removing pharmaceutical residues due to their simplicity, ecological benignity, high efficiency, and exceptional stability. Herein, we demonstrate the sonochemically synthesised chitosan biopolymer functionalized copper oxide nanoparticles as an efficient photocatalyst for the degradation of fluoroquinolone-based antibiotics. The X-ray diffraction Rietveld refinement revealed the formation of single-phase copper oxide (CuO) with a monoclinic structure.

The efficient charge transfer from methylammonium lead halide, MAPbX (X = Br, I), perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) to 5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin (TPP) molecules has been investigated in detail. The hydrophobically-capped MAPbX PNCs exhibited bright fluorescence in the solution state. However, in the presence of TPP, the fluorescence intensity was quenched, which is ascribed to the electron transfer from the PNCs to TPP.
