Purpose: Our primary aim was to compare adult full-field ERG (ffERG) responses in albinism, idiopathic infantile nystagmus (IIN), and controls. A secondary aim was to investigate the effect of within-subject changes in nystagmus eye movements on ffERG responses.

Methods: Dilated Ganzfeld flash ffERG responses were recorded using DTL electrodes under conditions of dark (standard and dim flash) and light adaptation in 68 participants with albinism, 43 with IIN, and 24 controls.

This article addresses the issues of unreasonable water scheduling and high costs in coal mine shafts, proposing a hierarchical optimization scheduling strategy. Taking the water quality and quantity of a certain mining area in Inner Mongolia as the research object, it designs the objective function with the highest reuse efficiency and the lowest reuse cost of mine water resources, and establishes the constraint conditions of water quality and quantity for each water-using unit. In response to the problem that traditional genetic algorithms are prone to local optima, an adaptive autobiographical operator is proposed and improved based on Metropolis principle of simulated annealing algorithm.

Solid backfilling in coal mining refers to filling the goaf with solid materials to form a support structure, ensuring safety in the ground and upper mining areas. This mining method maximizes coal production and addresses environmental requirements. However, in traditional backfill mining, challenges exist, such as limited perception variables, independent sensing devices, insufficient sensing data, and data isolation.

Background & Aims: A single hepatitis B virus (HBV) particle is sufficient to establish chronic infection of the liver after intravenous injection, suggesting that the virus targets hepatocytes via a highly efficient transport pathway. We therefore investigated whether HBV uses a physiological liver-directed pathway that supports specific host-cell targeting in vivo.

Methods: We established the ex vivo perfusion of intact human liver tissue that recapitulates the liver physiology to investigate HBV liver targeting.

Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection has been characterized by lack of effective adaptive immune responses which are vital for the viral clearance. However, very little is known about the dynamics of adaptive immune responses during the early phase of chronic HBV infection especially in spleen and liver. Here, we used the hydrodynamic injection (HDI) mouse model to kinetically characterize differences in the features of adaptive immunity, including the frequencies, phenotypes and function of antigen-presenting cells and T cells in the spleen, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and liver, of chronic versus acute-resolving HBV replication (AR).

Crohn's-like lymphoid reaction (CLR) and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are crucial for the host antitumor immune response. We proposed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based model to quantify the density of TILs and CLR in immunohistochemical (IHC)-stained whole-slide images (WSIs) and further constructed the CLR-I (immune) score, a tissue level- and cell level-based immune factor, to predict the overall survival (OS) of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). The TILs score and CLR score were obtained according to the related density.

Background And Aims: Change of gut microbiota composition is associated with the outcome of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, yet the related mechanisms are not fully characterized. The objective of this study was to investigate the immune mechanism associated with HBV persistence induced by gut microbiota dysbiosis.

Methods: C57BL/6 mice were sterilized for gut-microbiota by using an antibiotic (ABX) mixture protocol, and were monitored for their serum endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide [LPS]) levels.

Purpose: Accumulating evidence revealed the predictive value of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) for neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) response in solid tumors. This study quantified TILs density using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stained whole-slide images (WSIs) and investigated the predictive value of TILs density on nCRT response in locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) patients.

Patients And Methods: Two hundred and ten patients diagnosed with LARC were enrolled in this study.

Background: The Crohn's-like lymphoid reaction (CLR) is manifested as peritumoral lymphocytes aggregation in colon cancer, which is a major component of the host immune response to cancer. However, the lack of a unified and objective CLR evaluation standard limits its clinical application. We, therefore, developed a deep learning model for the fully automated CLR density quantification on routine hematoxylin and eosin (HE)-stained whole-slide images (WSIs) and further investigated its prognostic validity for patient stratification.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV)-based vaccines show promising effects against chronic infections in nonhuman primates. Therefore, we examined the potential of hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccines based on mouse CMV (MCMV) vectors expressing the small HBsAg. Immunological consequences of vaccine virus attenuation were addressed by either replacing the dispensable gene m157 ("MCMV-HBsȍ) or the gene M27 ("ΔM27-HBs"), the latter encodes a potent IFN antagonist targeting the transcription factor STAT2.

Background & Aims: CD100 is constitutively expressed on T cells and can be cleaved from the cell surface by matrix metalloproteases (MMPs) to become soluble CD100 (sCD100). Both membrane-bound CD100 (mCD100) and sCD100 have important immune regulatory functions that promote immune cell activation and responses. This study investigated the expression and role of mCD100 and sCD100 in regulating antiviral immune responses during HBV infection.

In recent years, a critical role for T cell immunoglobulin mucin domain 3 (Tim-3) and its ligand Galectin-9 (Gal-9) has emerged in infectious disease, autoimmunity and cancer. Manipulating this immune checkpoint may have immunotherapeutic potential and could represent an alternative approach for improving immune responses to viral infections and cancer. The woodchuck (Marmot monax) infected by woodchuck hepatitis virus (WHV) represents an informative animal model to study HBV infection and HCC.

Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) is an important cytokine with pleiotropic regulatory functions in the immune system and in the responses against viral infections. TGF-β acts on a variety of immune cells through the cell surface TGF-β receptor (University of Duisburg-EssenTGFBR). The woodchuck has been used as a biomedical model for studies of obesity and energy balance, endocrine and metabolic function, cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and neoplastic disease.
