The imbalance of immune response plays a crucial role in the development of diseases, including glioblastoma. It is essential to comprehend how the innate immune system detects tumors and pathogens. Endosomal and cytoplasmic sensors can identify diverse cancer cell antigens, triggering the production of type I interferon and pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Background: Renal denervation (RDN) is a promising treatment based on catheter intervention for patients with refractory hypertension. However, the effect in patients with isolated systolic hypertension (ISH) remains controversial. The aim of this meta-analysis was to determine the blood pressure lowing effect of RDN in patients with ISH compared with combined systolic/diastolic hypertension (CH) patients.

Background: Catheter ablation for ventricular tachycardia (VT) in patients with arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) has significantly evolved over the past decade. However, different ablation strategies showed inconsistency in acute and long-term outcomes.

Methods: We searched the databases of Medline, Embase and Cochrane Library through October 17, 2019 for studies describing the clinical outcomes of VT ablation in ARVC.

Background: Information on the relationship between red blood cell distribution width (RDW) and atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with essential hypertension are scarce. The study aimed to assess the relationship between AF and RDW in hypertensive patients.

Methods: We enrolled 432 hypertensive patients, including 350 AF patients and 82 patients as controls.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the relationship between thyroid dysfunction and the occurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM), analyzing a cohort of 806 patients.
  • Results show that hypothyroidism is the most common thyroid condition among these patients, with higher rates of AF detected in individuals with both overt and subclinical hypothyroidism, along with significant differences in thyroid hormone levels between AF and non-AF groups.
  • The findings suggest that lower levels of free triiodothyronine (FT3), higher free thyroxine (FT4), and increased thyrotropin (TSH) levels are independently associated with a higher incidence of AF,

Background: Endothelial function, as measured by big endothelin-1 (ET-1), has been demonstrated to be useful in predicting adverse long-term events in patients with cardiovascular disease. Nevertheless, there are little data about the association between big ET-1 and thromboembolism risk in atrial fibrillation (AF). We aimed to investigate the relationship between big ET-1 and CHADS/CHADS-VASc scores used for evaluating thromboembolic risk in patients with non-valvular AF.

Objective: We aimed to elucidate the ameliorative effect of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) on endothelium-dependent relaxation disturbances via peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor delta/endothelial nitric oxide synthase (PPARδ/eNOS) pathway activation in hypertensive patients and rats.

Methods: Renal arteries were collected from normotensive and hypertensive patients who underwent nephron-sparing surgery. Renal arteries from 37 patients were cultured with or without sodium H2S (NaHS) 50 μmol/l.

Background: Hydrogen sulfide (HS) is an important endogenous gaseous transmitter in many physiological functions. Plasma HS decreased, and angiotensin II (Ang II) type 1 receptor (AT1R) increased in the myocardial tissues in 2-kidney 1-clip (2K1C) rats than in normotensive rats. Accumulating evidences suggest that HS inhibited Ang II/AT1R pathway to regulate cardiovascular function.

Genistein has been shown to enhance the antitumor activity of trichostatin A (TSA) in human lung carcinoma A549 cells. However, whether the combined treatment exerts the same effect in other lung cancer cells is unclear. In the present study we first compared the enhancing effect of genistein on the antitumor effect of TSA in ABC-1, NCI-H460 (H460) and A549 cells.

Background: Rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM) plays a crucial role in the central regulation of cardiovascular functions. Cystathionine-β-synthase (CBS) is a major hydrogen sulfide (H2S)-generating enzyme that has been identified mainly in the brain. The present study was designed to examine CBS expression and determine its roles and mechanisms of regulating sympathetic outflow and blood pressure (BP) in the RVLM in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR).

Article Synopsis
  • Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) influences blood pressure control by acting on the rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM), a brain region important for regulating sympathetic nerve activity.
  • In a study with normotensive rats, the introduction of cystathionine β-synthase (CBS) did not affect blood pressure or heart rate directly, but inhibiting CBS resulted in increased sympathetic nerve activity, mean arterial pressure, and heart rate.
  • The effects of CBS inhibition in rats with CBS were enhanced compared to those with a control vector, indicating that the CBS/H2S system modulates activity in KATP channels, which in turn influences sympathetic outflow and cardiovascular responses.
