Article Synopsis
  • * A study involving 3,025 hemodialysis patients found that those sleeping more than 7 hours were more likely to face hypertension and high levels of sugar and fats in the blood, while shorter sleep durations also increased risks for some conditions.
  • * The research revealed that poor sleep quality had a negative impact on good cholesterol (HDL) and was linked to high triglycerides, with notable differences seen between genders.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between aging, dialysis duration, and the control of calcium, phosphorus, and iPTH levels in hemodialysis patients, highlighting that aging is a significant issue in this group.
  • Conducted on 3,025 hemodialysis patients in China, the research found that those with poor control of calcium and phosphorus levels, especially those undergoing dialysis for longer periods, showed a disparity between chronological age and biological age.
  • The results suggest that improper metabolic control can accelerate aging in hemodialysis patients, indicating the need for further research on the importance of regulating these minerals to potentially slow down the aging process.

Article Synopsis
  • Serum magnesium (Mg) levels are linked to various health issues like insulin resistance and inflammation, and this study aims to explore how Mg relates to allostatic load (AL) in hemodialysis patients.
  • Conducted in Anhui Province, China, the research involved 3,025 hemodialysis patients, ultimately including 1,222 in the analysis, revealing that 23.4% had high AL levels.
  • Findings indicate that lower serum Mg is associated with higher odds of high AL, suggesting that maintaining higher Mg levels could lower health risks for these patients, warranting further research.

Background: The pathological T3N0M0 (pT3N0M0) rectal cancer is the earliest stage and has the best prognosis in the locally advanced rectal cancer, but the optimal treatment remains controversial. A reliable prognostic model is needed to discriminate the high-risk patients from the low-risk patients, and optimize adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT) treatment decisions by predicting the likelihood of ACT benefit for the target population.

Patients And Methods: We gathered and analyzed 276 patients in Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center from March 2005 to December 2011.

Background: Chronic kidney disease-mineral bone disorder (CKD-MBD) is a common comorbidity in patients with CKD. The study aims to describe the control rates of serum-corrected calcium (Ca), phosphate (P) and intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) and its risk factors among maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients in Anhui Province of China.

Methods: The study was conducted in 27 hemodialysis centers of Anhui Province between January 1st 2020 and December 31th 2020.

Purpose: This study aimed to predict the risks of distant metastasis (DM) of locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) patients with pathological complete response (pCR) after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NACRT) and total mesorectal excision (TME), and to find the association between adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT) and their survival outcomes.

Methods And Materials: A total of 242 patients with LARC achieving pCR after NACRT were enrolled in this retrospective study. We developed a nomogram model using logistic regression analyses for predicting risk of DM.

Background: Total neoadjuvant therapy (TNT) is a novel approach for locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC), which attempts to deliver both systemic chemotherapy and neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy prior to surgery. However, its efficacy and safety remain controversial in randomized controlled trials (RCTs). We conducted this meta-analysis to assess such concerns.
