Due to the lack of trunk neuromuscular organoids (NMOs) from ALS patients' induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), an organoid system was missing to model the trunk spinal neuromuscular neurodegeneration. With the C9orf72 ALS patient-derived iPSCs and isogenic controls, we used an NMO system containing trunk spinal cord neural and peripheral muscular tissues to show that the ALS NMOs could model peripheral defects in ALS, including contraction weakness, neural denervation, and loss of Schwann cells.

Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) were generated using a non-integrating SeV-based method, delivering the transcription factors OCT4, SOX2, c-MYC, and KLF4. These transgene-free iPSC lines exhibited typical pluripotent cell morphology, expressed pluripotency-associated markers, and had tri-lineage differentiation potential.

Micro- and nanoplastics have recently been detected in human blood and placentas, indicating inevitable embryonic exposure to these particles. However, their influence on human embryogenesis and the underlying mechanisms are still unknown. In this study, the effects of polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NPs) exposure on cardiac differentiation of human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) were evaluated.

Our previous studies confirmed the ability of zinc to protect mitochondria, protect neurons and promote spinal cord recovery. However, the role of zinc in Parthanatos is unknown.

Background: Artemisiae capillariae (Yinchen, YC) is a well-known herbal medicine used to treat drug-induced liver diseases, while the bioactive phytochemicals and pharmacological targets of YC remain unclear.
Objective: The study aimed to probe the key active components in YC and determine the potential molecular mechanisms of YC protect against DILI.
Methods: In this study, we first delved into the active chemicals and targets of YC, identified potential anti-AILI targets for YC, mapped the components-targets network, performed proteinprotein interaction (PPI) analysis, gene ontology (GO) enrichment, and Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) signaling pathway analyses of the action targets.
Introduction/context: Healthcare workers (HCWs) play an important role in fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic. However, they have been exposed to mixed public responses more significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic, which have potentially affected their work and life.
Aim: We aim to study what public responses toward HCWs existed, how and why such public responses impacted HCW's work engagement and well-being, and how Human Resource (HR) professionals navigate these impacts.
In this digitalized era, Internet addiction has been a severe problem that needs imperative solutions derived from the same mechanism that leads to its addiction. To uncover a more nuanced mechanism for Internet addiction in association with decision-making focus and emotions and thus generate effective interventions, we conducted three experiments to investigate how various forms of emotion priming affect intertemporal choice among Internet addicts and normal Internet users. We divided the emotions into three categories, namely emotional valence (negative and positive emotions), expected emotion type (expected regret, expected joy), and current emotion type (current regret, current joy).

Studies have shown that ginsenoside Rb1 has neurotrophic and neuroprotective effects. However, whether it influences energy metabolism after spinal cord injury remains unclear.

And zinc is an essential nutrient for human body and participates in many physiological processes, such as immune response, homeostasis, oxidative stress, cell cycle progression, DNA replication, DNA damage repair, apoptosis, and aging. This article mainly summarizes that zinc could predict the prognosis and treat the spinal cord injury.

Steatosis and inflammation are the main phenomena involved in ALD. Ubiquitin-specific protease 22 (USP22) plays an important role in liver steatosis; however, its functional contribution to ALD remains unclear.

ALD pathogenesis is initiated with liver steatosis, and ALD can progress to steatohepatitis, fibrosis, cirrhosis and even hepatocellular carcinoma. Acyl-CoA synthetase family member 3 (ACSF3), which is involved in the regulation of fatty acid metabolism, was predicted to contain lysine acetylation sites related to the mitochondrial deacetylase sirtuin 3 (SIRT3). The purpose of this study was to explore the underlying mechanism by which SIRT3 deacetylates ACSF3 in NAFLD and the protective effect of the natural phenolic compound protocatechuic acid (PCA) against fatty acid metabolism disorder via the SIRT3/ACSF3 pathway.

Scutellarin is an herbal flavonoid glucuronide, isolated from the Chinese traditional herb Erigeron breviscapus, has been reported to have anti-inflammatory effect. Here, we showed that Scutellarin could inhibit inflammation and protects cartilage from degeneration in vitro and in vivo.

Methods: ALI mouse models were established by the stimulation of LPS.
Enantioselective intramolecular [3 + 2] annulation of chalcones bearing an allene moiety has been successfully developed. The reaction was effectively promoted by amino acid-derived phosphines, in combination with achiral Brønsted acids. Dihydrocoumarin architectures were constructed in high yields and with excellent enantiomeric excesses.

This study investigated the hepatoprotective effects of SalB in chronic alcoholic liver disease (ALD) and explored the related signaling mechanisms. In vivo, SalB treatment significantly attenuated ethanol-induced liver injury by blocking the elevation of serum aminotransferase activities and markedly decreased hepatic lipid accumulation by reducing serum and liver triglyceride (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) levels.
