In order to study the expression and regulation effects of estrogen receptor-beta (ERbeta) in the development of mouse embryo, the primer of ERbeta was designed, the ERbeta fragment was first obtained by RT-PCR and subcloned into plasmids pGEM- 3Z, then the recombinant plasmids were linearized with the restriction enzymes of EcoRand Hind. Using Sp6 and T7 RNA polymerase, the digoxigenin(dig) labeled sense and anti-sense probes were transcriped in vitro, respectively. Then the expression of ERbeta in mouse embryo was examined with the probes by whole-mount in situ hybridization.

Purple sweet potato color (PSPC), a class of naturally occurring anthocyanins used to color food (E163), has been reported to possess a variety of biological activities, including anti-oxidant, anti-tumor, and anti-inflammatory. The effect of PSPC on the spatial learning and memory of mice treated with d-galactose (d-gal) was evaluated by the Morris water maze; d-gal-treated mice had decreased performance compared with mice in the vehicle and PSPC groups, while the PSPC+d-gal group showed significantly shortened escape latency to platform, increased swimming speed, more target quadrant search time and more platform crossings as compared with the d-gal group. Brain functions, such as memory formation and recovery of function after injury, depend on proper regulation of the expression levels of the pre- and post-synaptic proteins.

We report a 30 year old male without structural heart disease who presented with recurrent nocturnal syncope and aborted sudden cardiac death. 12-lead ECG showed elevated ST in inferior leads and short coupled premature ventricular complexes (PVCs). Propafenone challenge suggested a diagnosis of an atypical Brugada syndrome.

K(+) channels form a large family of membrane proteins that are expressed in a polarized fashion in any epithelial cell. Based on the transmembrane gradient for K(+) that is maintained by the Na(+)-K(+)-ATPase, these channels serve two principal functions for transepithelial transport: generation of membrane voltage and recycling of K(+). In this brief review, we will outline the importance of this ancient principle by examples of epithelial transport in the renal proximal tubule and gastric parietal cells.

Objective: To report the electrophysiological findings and the ablation strategies in patients with atrial tachyarrhythmias (ATAs) or atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after left atrial circumferential ablation (LACA) in the treatment of AF.

Methods: 91 patients with AF had LACA procedure from April 2004 to May 2006, 19 of which accepted the second ablation procedure due to ATAs or AF recurrence. In all the 19 patients [17 male, 2 female, age 25 - 65 (53 +/- 12) years], 11 presented with paroxysmal AF before the first ablation procedure, 2 with persistent AF and 6 with permanent AF.

We detail findings in a patient with incessant idiopathic left ventricular tachycardia (ILVT), induced cardiomyopathy, and an "electrical storm" consisting of recurrent polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (PVT). Catheter ablation not only eradicated the ILVT, but also additionally suppressed recurrent PVT. These findings suggest that the recurrent PVT storm in this patient related to long-standing tachycardia-induced cardiac electrical remodeling that led to QT prolongation.

The present study investigated the role of the dorsal column (DC) in the mechanism of the hypotensive effect induced by simulating acupuncture on rat hindlimb. The femoral arterial pressure and electrocardiogram (ECG) of rats were recorded when the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) was electrically stimulated with or without DC lesion. Stimulation of the deep peroneal nerve (DPN) decreased the pressor response elicited by electrical stimulation of the PVN.

To investigate the vasorelaxant effect of puerarin, tension was recorded from rat thoracic aortic rings. Puerarin completely relaxed the contractions induced by phenylephrine (PE) in a concentration-dependent manner in endothelium-intact and endothelium-denuded rat aorta, while had no effect on those preconstricted by a high concentration of potassium chloride (60 mM). Also, puerarin had no effects on the transient contraction elicited by PE or caffeine in Ca2+- free medium.

In the present study, lidocaine relaxed, in a concentration-dependent manner, the contractions induced by either phenylephrine or a high concentration of KCl (60 mM) in endothelium-intact rat aortic rings. Mechanical removal of endothelium did not significantly modify lidocaine-induced vasorelaxation. In endothelium-denuded aortic rings depolarized by 60 mM KCl, lidocaine inhibited Ca2+-induced contraction.
