A phase conversion technology, involving the loading of brine samples with anionic polyacrylamide (APAM) colloidal droplets, is proposed to detect metal elements rapidly and accurately in liquid samples using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy. The experimental conditions were optimized by comparing the obtained emission intensities and the signal-to-noise ratios, including the concentration of APAM, volume ratio of APAM solution to sample, delay time, and lens-to-sample distance (LTSD). Three kinds of complex brine samples with slightly soluble salts were used to test the analytical performance of the proposed method.

During a nuclear accident, estimating the source terms using environmental measurements is vital for emergency decision-making. In this study, we propose a forecasting model based on a temporal convolutional network to estimate the release rates of seven radionuclides (Kr-88, Te-132, I-131, Xe-133, Cs-137, Ba-140, and Ce-144) based on off-site sequential gamma dose rates and meteorological monitoring data. To determine the best structure of the neural network, Bayesian optimization and hyperband (BOHB) was used on the hyperparameters of the model to reduce the testing loss.

There is a lack of systematic research on the expression of internal control genes used for gene expression normalization in real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction in spinal cord injury research. In this study, we used rat models of spinal cord hemisection to analyze the expression stability of 13 commonly applied reference genes: Actb, Ankrd27, CypA, Gapdh, Hprt1, Mrpl10, Pgk1, Rictor, Rn18s, Tbp, Ubc, Ubxn11, and Ywhaz. Our results show that the expression of Ankrd27, Ubc, and Tbp were stable after spinal cord injury, while Actb was the most unstable internal control gene.

Sewage sludge-derived biochars (SSBCs) were obtained at temperatures of 300, 500, and 700 °C to investigate the potentially toxic elements (PTEs) behaviors and assess the environmental acceptability for the possible application in the environment. Results indicated that PTEs exhibited diversely in the distribution of chemical speciation, while all elements tended to be immobilized in biochar matrix and the total amount elevated during the pyrolysis. The risk assessment of biochars implied a low degree of environmental risk for the utilization of SSBCs prepared at high temperatures.

The silicon coated Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) nanocomposite (CNTs@Si) with a shell structure was successfully synthesized by a simple chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method.
