Stress and anger are two negative emotions that affect individuals both mentally and physically; there is a need to tackle them as soon as possible. Automated systems are highly required to monitor mental states and to detect early signs of emotional health issues. In the present work convolutional neural network is proposed for anger and stress detection using handcrafted features and deep learned features from the spectrogram.

Aim: Consumption of areca nut products among school going children has become very common social evil in some areas of Nepal especially adjoining the Indian subcontinent. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of areca nut chewing habit among high school children in Terai belt of Nepal. The use of areca nut has become indigenous in this part and is being used by itself and in various formulations.

Effect of topical simvastatin (1.2 mg) on gingival crevicular fluid interleukin-6, interleukin-8 and interleukin-10 levels in chronic periodontitis - A clinicobiochemical study.

Objectives: The impact of simvastatin (SMV), a cholesterol lowering drug, on bone metabolism appears to involve complex interaction with cholesterol metabolites, hormones, inflammatory mediators and growth factors, thus having direct influence on extent and severity of periodontitis. The present study aims to evaluate the in vivo effect of subgingivally delivered SMV gel (1.2 mg) as a local drug-delivery agent on clinical parameters and on interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-8 (IL-8) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) levels in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of chronic periodontitis patients.

Haptics, or touchsense haptic technology is a major breakthrough in medical and dental interventions. Haptic perception is the process of recognizing objects through touch. Haptic sensations are created by actuators or motors which generate vibrations to the users and are controlled by embedded software which is integrated into the device.

Periodontal proteomics: wonders never cease!

Proteins are vital parts of living organisms, as they are integral components of the physiological metabolic pathways of cells. Periodontal tissues comprise multicompartmental groups of interacting cells and matrices that provide continuous support, attachment, proprioception, and physical protection for the teeth. The proteome map, that is, complete catalogue of the matrix and cellular proteins expressed in alveolar bone, cementum, periodontal ligament, and gingiva, is to be explored for more in-depth understanding of periodontium.

Importance of ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging in diagnosis of cysticercosis of temporalis muscle mimicking temporal space infection.

Cysticercosis cellulosae, caused by the larval stage of Taenia solium is a common parasitic infection in Indian subcontinent. Although cysticercosis is common in other parts of the human body, its involvement with temporalis muscle is an extremely rare entity and demands documentation. This paper reports a case of cysticercosis cellulosae in a 35-year-old male patient within the temporalis muscle mimicking temporal space infection; due to the presence of concomitant dental infection, which was diagnosed with the help of high resolution ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging and managed conservatively using oral antiparasitic medication.

Idiopathic gingival fibromatosis rehabilitation: a case report with two-year followup.

Gingival enlargements are quite common and may be either inflammatory, noninflammatory, or a combination of both. Gingival hyperplasia is a bizarre condition causing esthetic, functional, psychological, and masticatory disturbances of the oral cavity. Causes of gingival enlargement can be due to plaque accumulation, due to poor oral hygiene, inadequate nutrition, or systemic hormonal stimulation (Bakaeen and Scully, 1998).

Expression and distribution of the sweet taste receptor isoforms T1R2 and T1R3 in human and rat bladders.

Purpose: Artificial sweeteners augment bladder contraction. We hypothesized that artificial sweeteners activate sweet taste receptors in the bladder. Thus, we investigated the expression of sweet taste receptors in human and rat bladders.

Weiss criteria in large adrenocortical tumors: a validation study.

Background: Several systems including pathologic criteria alone or in combination with clinical features have been proposed to differentiate between benign and malignant adrenocortical tumors and assess their prognosis. The Weiss system appears to be the most commonly used method for assessing malignancy but there are only a few studies which have evaluated its diagnostic power. Since we see large adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC), we attempt to evaluate the diagnostic power of Weiss system in large ACC.

Mitral valve replacement in severe pulmonary arterial hypertension.

The immediate postoperative hemodynamics in 43 patients with severe pulmonary arterial hypertension who underwent mitral valve replacement between January 2000 and September 2001 were studied prospectively. The mean age was 30.6 years.

Cytopathologic diagnosis of xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis and coexistent lesions. A prospective study of 31 cases.

Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy and reliability of preoperative ultrasound (US)-guided fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) in the diagnosis of xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis (XGC) and coexistent lesions (carcinoma) and also to evaluate the possibility ofmissing either carcinoma or XGC on cytology.

Study Design: The cytologic diagnoses of XGC and coexistent lesions were made according to standard criteria. In a prospective, 5-year study, preoperative US-guided FNAC from 42 cases of XGC was compared with follow-up histologic diagnoses, which were available in 31 cases.

Ectopic fascioliasis in the dorsal spine: case report.

Objective: Parasitic myelopathy is rare. We report ectopic infestation of the spine by Fasciola hepatica.

Clinical Presentation: A young woman presented with gradual onset paraplegia with bladder and bowel involvement.

Long-term survival and recurrence patterns in ampullary cancer.

Objective: Ampullary cancers are associated with high resectability rates and good long-term survival. However, the small number of patients in various series has hampered survival analysis.

Methods: One hundred thirteen patients with ampullary cancer underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy between 1989 and 2000, with 48% morbidity and 8% mortality.

Primary cardiac tumors: surgical experience and follow-up.

Background: Primary cardiac tumors are rare. There are only a few reports of such tumors from India.

Methods And Results: We report our experience with 34 patients with primary cardiac tumors operated on at our institute between December 1989 and October 2001.

ICD nocardiosis.

We present an initial report of Nocardia asteroides implantable cardioverter defibrillator infection. Systemic infection persisted despite pulse generator explant and several years of appropriate antibiotic therapy. Without epicardial lead system removal, chronic pleuropericardial disease developed.

Innovative endovascular defibrillator lead use in superior vena cava obstruction.

Background: We describe an unusual case of severe heart failure (HF) and rapid atrial fibrillation (AF) improved through ablation and pacemaker implant despite superior vena cava obstruction (SVCO).

Methods: SVCO precluded upper body venous access to the heart for procedural rate control. Both AV Junctional ablation and permanent endovascular lead placement were achieved through the inferior vena cava (IVC).
