Forests in the East Ural Radioactive Trace: structure, spatial distribution, and the Sr inventory 63 years after the Kyshtym accident.

On 29 September 1957, the so-called Kyshtym accident occurred at the USSR's first nuclear weapons plutonium production facility. The East Ural State Reserve (EUSR) was established in the most contaminated part of the radioactive trace, where a substantial part of the forests died in the first years after the accident. The purpose of our study was to evaluate the natural restoration of forests and to verify and update the taxonomic parameters that characterize the current state of forest stands in the EUSR.

An Analysis of the Links between Smoking and BMI in Adolescents: A Moving Average Approach to Establishing the Statistical Relationship between Quantitative and Dichotomous Variables.

Unlabelled: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of smoking on BMI in male adolescents and explore the relationship between smoking status and diet.

Methods: A cross-sectional epidemiological study into the health and diet of adolescents was carried out based on a representative sample of 375 vocational school male students aged 16-17 in the city of Chelyabinsk (Russian Federation). The students and their parents filled out verified questionnaires on their socioeconomic status, diet, and smoking status.

The aim of this study was to find stabilometric parameters, the values of which correlate with chronological age. The results of the standard stabilometric test with open and closed eyes, which obtained during the examination of 87 people aged from 20 to 70 years, were considered. Basic, vector and frequency indicators of 618 tests (334 with open eyes and 284 with closed eyes) were analyzed.

[COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY FOR ACCOUNTING OF CONFOUNDERS IN THE RISK ASSESSMENT IN COMPARATIVE STUDIES ON THE BASE OF THE METHOD OF STANDARDIZATION].

There was performed an analysis of the accounting of the impact of concomitant variables (confounders), introducing a systematic error in the assessment of the impact of risk factors on the resulting variable. The analysis showed that standardization is an effective method for the reduction of the shift of risk assessment. In the work there is suggested an algorithm implementing the method of standardization based on stratification, providing for the minimization of the difference of distributions of confounders in groups on risk factors.
