Article Synopsis
  • Intra-regional cultural and linguistic differences challenge health education in low- and middle-income countries, necessitating innovative teaching methods like the Community Orientation Program (COP) to sensitize medical students to social determinants of health.
  • The COP, developed using the ADDIE model, focuses on enhancing students' communication skills and observational abilities through hands-on community engagement and collaborative learning in an Indian setting.
  • Feedback from over 550 students trained through the COP indicates it improved their understanding of socio-demographic factors in health, respect for local culture, and communication skills, although suggestions for enhancing clinical examination practices were noted.
