Although previously considered rare, spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is increasingly recognized as an important cause of myocardial infarction in young women. We present three unique cases of SCAD: A 46-year-old woman with a history of trigeminal neuralgia and anxiety presenting elevated troponin-I and chest pain. A 36-year-old woman with recent miscarriage presenting with diffuse T wave inversions and elevated troponin-I.

Acute Pericarditis Triggered by Severe Thyrotoxicosis.

Acute pericarditis is a common inflammatory disorder with several causes including infection, malignancy, acute myocardial infarction, and autoimmune disease. Acute pericarditis can rarely present in the setting of thyrotoxicosis. A 65-year-old man with a past medical history of HIV, diastolic dysfunction, and prediabetes presented with positional chest pain, respiratory distress, and altered mentation.

A Case of Uncomplicated Duodenal Diverticulosis Presenting With Right Upper Abdominal Pain.

Small bowel diverticulosis is not a common disease entity; however, it is increasingly diagnosed and linked to various gastrointestinal complaints. Although rare, complications can occur and may sometimes require surgical or endoscopic intervention. Furthermore, suspecting and diagnosing duodenal diverticulosis (DD) can be challenging due to the variety of presenting signs and symptoms.

Bilateral traumatic testicular dislocation after motorbike accident: A case report with literature review.

The occurrence of testicular dislocation resulting from blunt trauma to the scrotum or abdominopelvic region is infrequent. Due to the presence of significant associated injuries, the diagnosis of this condition can often be missed. This case study presents a case of an adult male who experienced bilateral testicular dislocation following a motorbike accident.

Traumatic Spinal Epidural Hematoma With Significant Neurologic Findings: A Case Report.

Traumatic spinal epidural hematoma (TSEH) is a rare neurosurgical emergency. Our case report centers around a young 34-year-old female brought into our emergency department after a front and rear motor vehicle collision. Clinical deterioration and imaging studies revealed a large spinal epidural hematoma extending from levels C5 to T2.

Pancoast Tumor With Cardiac Metastases and Intracardiac Thrombosis.

Pancoast tumor is a rare and aggressive form of lung cancer; cardiac metastasis is very uncommon. We present a case of advanced Pancoast tumor, with extensive cardiac metastases and intracardiac thrombosis in a woman presenting with dyspnea, shoulder pain, and weight loss. A contrast-enhanced chest computed tomographic scan revealed an apical mass, metastatic thoracic nodes, and filling defects within both ventricles.

Multi-modality management of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is an autosomal dominant inherited condition defined by left ventricular wall thickness greater than 15 mm in the absence of other conditions that could explain that degree of hypertrophy. Obstructive HCM associated with left ventricular outflow tract obstruction is defined by an intraventricular systolic pressure gradient greater than or equal to 30 mm Hg. Over the past couple of decades, there has been an expansion of both invasive and pharmacotherapeutic options for patients with HCM, with recent guidelines calling for a melody of invasive and non-invasive treatment strategies.

A Case of Chest Jolts: Pulmonary Vein Thrombus Extending into the Left Atrium.

Pulmonary vein thrombosis (PVT) is a rare but life-threatening clinical condition, often found incidentally on imaging. In this report, we present an interesting case of PVT of the left inferior pulmonary vein with extension into the left atrium in a 78-year-old woman presenting with "jolts" in the chest. Initial imaging with plain chest film radiograph showed findings consistent with COPD and no acute intrathoracic process.

Spontaneous splenic rupture is a rare and life-threatening phenomenon, usually associated with an underlying infectious, inflammatory, hematological, neoplastic or rheumatologic condition. Indeterminate cell tumor is a rare neoplastic dendritic cell disorder that is poorly understood but shares immunophenotypic markers for Langerhans cells without Birbeck granules. A 73-year-old man presented with upper abdominal pain after an unwitnessed fall.

Novel linezolid-based oxazolidinones as potent anticandidiasis and antitubercular agents.

The quest for new antifungal and antitubercular drugs is a need of the hour because of morbid co-pathogenesis and an increase in immunocompromised patients. One of the ways forward is to explore and repurpose the established pharmacophores for the desired application. Oxazolidinones are well-known antibacterial agents, with few investigations reported to exploit their antifungal properties.

Unruptured bilateral supra-clinoid internal carotid artery aneurysms: A case report.

Unruptured supra-clinoid carotid aneurysms are rare aneurysmal dilatation of the supra-clinoid segment of internal carotid artery. Most cases are asymptomatic and discovered incidentally, while others may present with compressive symptoms on cranial nerve II, the optic nerve. We present a case of a 44-year-old female who presented with chronic headache and gradual decreased visual acuity.

Musculoskeletal deformities in children with congenital thoracic malformations: a population-based cohort study.

Purpose: It is unclear if musculoskeletal deformities observed in patients with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), congenital lung lesion (CLL) and esophageal atresia/tracheoesophageal fistula (EA/TEF) are associated with the anomaly or are a result of the surgery required to treat the anomaly. This study compared the prevalence of musculoskeletal deformities for: (1) children with congenital thoracic anomalies to controls; (2) CLL to EA/TEF both repaired via thoracotomy; and (3) CLL and EA/TEF to CDH repaired via laparotomy.

Methods: We performed a retrospective study of children with CLL, CDH or EA/TEF between 1990 and 2016.

Congenital lung malformation patients experience respiratory infections after resection: A population-based cohort study.

Purpose: The benefit of elective resection of congenital lung malformations continues to be debated. Proponents of resection endorse a decreased risk of respiratory complications as one indication for surgery. Our study aimed to compare the prevalence of respiratory infections in cases, before and after resection of congenital lung malformations, to controls without a history of congenital lung malformation.

Outcomes of Cystic Fibrosis Screening-Positive Infants With Inconclusive Diagnosis at School Age.

Background And Objectives: Cystic fibrosis (CF) screen-positive infants with an inconclusive diagnosis (CFSPID) are infants in whom sweat testing and genetic analysis does not resolve a CF diagnosis. Lack of knowledge about the health outcome of these children who require clinical follow-up challenges effective consultation. Early predictive biomarkers to delineate the CF risk would allow a more targeted approach to these children.

Intrahepatic gallbladder mimicking a cystic liver lesion: A case report & literature review.

Intrahepatic gallbladder is a rare congenital variant that occurs due to migration arrest of the gallbladder from reaching its normal position. We present a case of a 60year-old gentleman presenting with chronic abdominal pain and impaired liver enzymes. Abdominal ultrasonography showed a hepatic cystic lesion which later was identified as an ectopic gallbladder within the liver parenchyma through magnetic resonance imaging study of the liver.

Respiratory outcomes in the first 10 years of life in children with gastroschisis: A retrospective cohort study.

Background: Little attention has been given to the long-term respiratory outcomes of children with gastroschisis. The purpose of this study was to determine if gastroschisis survivors have more respiratory illnesses in their first 10 years of life compared with age-matched controls.

Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study of all gastroschisis children born in Manitoba between 1991 and 2017.

Since the first case of 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) detected on 30 January, 2020, in India, the number of cases rapidly increased to 3819 cases including 106 deaths as of 5 April, 2020. Taking this into account, in the present work, we have analysed a Bats-Hosts-Reservoir-People transmission fractional-order COVID-19 model for simulating the potential transmission with the thought of individual response and control measures by the government. The real data available about number of infected cases from 14 March, 2000 to 26 March, 2020 is analysed and, accordingly, various parameters of the model are estimated or fitted.

Solitary bone plasmacytoma: the unusual case of extra-cranial mini brain.

Solitary plasmacytoma is an uncommon tumor. We present a case in an unusually young patient demonstrating the mini brain sign that has been published in a couple of reports as a diagnostic radiological pattern produced by plasmacytoma. Identification of "mini brain appearance" on imaging can direct the radiologist and clinicians to the diagnosis of plasmacytoma and obviate the necessity of pre-operative biopsy.

The CPG program at King Saud University was launched as a quality improvement program to fulfil the international accreditation standards.
