Background: The food environment has been implicated as an underlying contributor to the global obesity epidemic. However, few studies have evaluated the relationship between the food environment, dietary intake, and overweight/obesity in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The aim of this study was to assess the association of full service and fast food restaurant density with dietary intake and overweight/obesity in Delhi, India.

Context: Gender differences in the risk of developing non-communicable diseases (NCD) are a matter of debate. The susceptibility of a woman to NCD should be evaluated taking into consideration the social factors that limit the physical activity among women. It will be interesting to note what will happen if women are allowed to take part in physical exercise to the extent of men.

Heart failure: meeting the challenges of surveillance and knowledge translation in resource-poor settings.

Heart failure (HF) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in high income countries. Shortage of population based HF studies from Low and Middle Income countries (LMIC) make global prevalence estimates difficult. In this editorial we discuss the possibility of generating HF data in LMICs by initiating HF surveillance systems integrated into the existing health surveillance system.

Socioeconomic position and prevalence of self-reported diabetes in rural Kerala, India: results from the PROLIFE study.

This article aims to study the relationship between socioeconomic position (SEP) and prevalence of self-reported diabetes in a rural population in Kerala, India. This study was designed as a cross-sectional survey. Data from PROLIFE, a prospective cohort study involving the long-term follow-up of the residents of an administrative unit in Kerala, India, was used.
