Premedication effect of melatonin on propofol induction dose for anesthesia, anxiety, orientation and sedation after abdominal surgery: a double-blinded randomized trial.

The present study addressed the effect of melatonin premedication on propofol induction dose for anesthesia in abdominal surgery. This is a double-blinded clinical trial in which abdominal surgery patients admitted to the Valiasr Hospital, Iran (n = 88) were enrolled and individually randomized into two groups: melatonin and placebo groups sublingually administered 3 mg of melatonin and placebo, respectively, 50 minutes before surgery. Their anxiety, orientation, and sedation were recorded before melatonin administration, anesthesia induction, and recovery, while we also recorded the propofol induction dose required for general anesthesia.

Effect of intravenous anesthesia with propofol isoflurane inhalation anesthesia in postoperative pain of inguinal herniotomy: a randomized clinical trial.

Postoperative pain is a common problem after inguinal herniotomy. We aimed to compare the intravenous anesthesia effects of propofol and isoflurane inhalation anesthesia on postoperative pain after inguinal herniotomy. In a randomized clinical trial, 102 eligible patients were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria and were randomly divided in two groups.

Background: Although oral ketamine has been used in some cases to reduce pain in children, the use of this drug to reduce pain after tonsillectomy has not been studied yet.

Methods: This double-blind clinical trial was conducted in 2009 in 92 children who were aged three to nine years old, met ASA I or II criteria, and were candidate for tonsillectomy. Patients were divided randomly into two groups.

Touch imprint and crash preparation intra operative cytology versus frozen section in thyroid nodule.

Background: Intra operative cytology (IC), including touch imprint (TI) and crash preparations (CP), in general has been demonstrated to be a diagnostic tool for many organs but its validity and reliability for diagnosis of thyroid nodules remain controversial. We evaluate the diagnostic value of frozen section, touch imprint, crash preparation and the combination of touch imprint and crash preparation and the combination of frozen section, touch imprint and crash preparation.

Materials And Methods: [corrected] 55 intra operative specimens from patients with thyroid nodules who underwent thyroidectomy were evaluated at Alzahra and vali-Asr hospital laboratories.
