Water scarcity is a foremost environmental concern and is expected to hasten in the forthcoming years due to severe fluctuations in weather patterns worldwide. The present work was designed to explore the potential role of alpha-tocopherol (α-Toc), a form of vitamin E, on the morphological, physio-biochemical, and cellular antioxidant responses of two radish genotypes grown under drought conditions (38 ± 3% of field capacity). The individual and combined applications of α-Toc (100 ppm) were used as T0- Control, T1- Control + TF (TF-alpha-tocopherol), T2- Drought (D), and T3- D + TF with three replications.

This study analyses the influence of environmental taxes, renewable energy, economic growth, green innovation and financial development on environmental sustainability in G-20 countries from 1990 to 2022. To this end, the Method of Moments Quantile Regression (MMQR) was applied to obtain the reference results, complemented with Fully Modified Ordinary Least Square (FMOLS) and Driscoll-Kraay techniques to perform a comparative analysis. Our results confirm a negative relationship between environmental taxes and sustainability in all quantiles, although this relationship is only significant in the middle and upper quantiles.

  • Chickpea productivity is negatively impacted by heavy metal toxicity, specifically cadmium (Cd), with a study conducted to analyze various treatments involving methylthio (MT) to alleviate stress effects.
  • Significant reductions in growth metrics like shoot fresh and dry weight, total chlorophyll, and calcium were observed under Cd stress, while increases in stress-related compounds such as proline, phenolics, and antioxidants were noted.
  • The application of 30 µM MT showed promising results, enhancing various growth parameters and antioxidant activities, thus demonstrating its potential in mitigating Cd toxicity, with the desi variety of chickpeas showing better resilience than the Kabuli variety.

Diabetes is a prevalent and serious metabolic disorder affecting millions globally, and it poses extensive health risks due to elevated blood glucose levels. One promising approach for managing diabetes is the inhibition of α-glucosidase, an enzyme that plays a crucial role in carbohydrate metabolism. Targeting α-glucosidase can help delay glucose absorption, thus controlling postprandial blood sugar spikes.

  • Studies link living near major roads to a higher risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD), but the exact mechanisms are unclear.
  • Exposure to diesel emissions (DE) was analyzed in olfactory mucosa cells from both healthy individuals and AD patients, revealing that AD cells showed nearly four times greater sensitivity to DE.
  • DNA methylation patterns changed in response to DE exposure, identifying potential biomarkers and pathways involved, particularly highlighting the role of NRF2 signaling in cellular responses to air pollution.

Cadmium, a hazardous heavy metal prevalent in plants and soil, poses a significant threat to human health, particularly as approximately 60% of the global population consumes wheat, which can accumulate high levels of Cd through its roots. This uptake leads to the translocation of Cd to the shoots and grains, exacerbating the potential health risks. However, promising results have been observed with the use of moringa leaf extract (MLE) foliar spray in mitigating the adverse effects of Cd stress.

The inverted U-shaped relationship between economic growth and environmental degradation is known as environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) and has been tested in many empirical studies since more than 3 decades. Technological change is one of the tools that can be used to examine the existence of EKC in CGE models. The objective is to extract EKC for G7 countries using a multi-regional CGE model and investigate the effects of some key factors affecting EKC using historical data for the period of 1861-2021.

The genus Phytophthora contains more than 100 plant pathogenic species that parasitize a wide range of plants, including economically important fruits, vegetables, cereals, and forest trees, causing significant losses. Global agriculture is seriously threatened by fungicide resistance in Phytophthora species, which makes it imperative to fully comprehend the mechanisms, frequency, and non-chemical management techniques related to resistance mutations. The mechanisms behind fungicide resistance, such as target-site mutations, efflux pump overexpression, overexpression of target genes and metabolic detoxification routes for fungicides routinely used against Phytophthora species, are thoroughly examined in this review.
