The introduction of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has changed the landscape of the treatment of cancer. Several immune-related adverse events (irAEs) have now been described such as ICI-inflammatory arthritis (IA), sicca syndrome, polymyalgia rheumatica, myositis, and vasculitis as a consequence of immune activation. The onset of the ICI-IA can vary from after the first infusion of ICIs to a delayed presentation a year or more after ICI initiation.

There is a paucity of data on the transfer of ketamine from maternal blood into human milk. Quantification of ketamine in human milk provides information about the potential exposure of the infant to ketamine and its metabolites from the mother during lactation. A highly specific, reproducible, and sensitive UPLC-MS/MS based analytical method was developed and validated for the quantitation of ketamine and its metabolites (norketamine and dehydronorketamine) in human milk.

Daytime sleepiness is highly prevalent in middle-aged adults and has a detrimental impact on their quality of life. Our study examined the psychological and behavioral determinants of daytime sleepiness among adults aged 35 to 64 years. The main variables of interest were psychological factors (perceived stress and anxiety), physical activity factors (moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and sedentary behaviors), and dietary factors (fat, sugar, fruit, and vegetable intake).

Individuals who are better at regulating their emotions have been shown to have better physical and mental health outcomes. One promising emotion regulation strategy is psychological distancing, which involves appraising a stimulus with objectivity or spatial/temporal distance. Language-based psychological distancing (linguistic distancing [LD]) refers to the degree to which one implements psychological distancing naturally via language.

Background: Gender dysphoria is a condition that often leads to significant patient morbidity and mortality. Although gender-affirming surgery (GAS) has been offered for more than half a century with clear significant short-term improvement in patient well-being, few studies have evaluated the long-term durability of these outcomes.

Methods: Chart review identified 97 patients who were seen for gender dysphoria at a tertiary care center from 1970 to 1990 with comprehensive preoperative evaluations.

Objective: The loss of a spouse is considered one of the most significant life change-related stressors. Bereaved spouses have significantly increased risk of chronic inflammation, and ultimately greater morbidity and mortality. High levels of proinflammatory cytokines are related to negative health outcomes.

Workplace violence in healthcare is a significant and costly problem. The majority of violent events that occur in the medical inpatient setting are perpetrated by patients against staff and occur during a behavioral emergency. The primary purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of an innovative model of behavior management on occurrence of behavioral emergencies and staff comfort and competence in managing difficult patient behaviors.

Nutrient uptake by the rice-wheat cropping system (RWCS) is an important indicator of soil fertility and plant nutrient status. The hypothesis of this investigation was that the rate and sources of nutrient application can differentially influence nutrient removal and soil nutrient status in different crop establishment techniques (CETs). Cropping system yield was on par in all the CETs evaluated, however, there were significant changes in soil nutrient availability and microbiological aspects.

Background: Early palliative care addresses biopsychosocial needs for people living with HIV in an outpatient setting. We sought to describe patients referred to a palliative care program and compare the medical outcomes of emergency department (ED) visits, hospitalizations, primary care visits, and viral load suppression among patients enrolled in the program, to patients who did not enroll (no-show group).

Setting: We completed a retrospective cohort study at an urban, academically affiliated HIV primary care clinic.

Individuals who poorly regulate emotion exhibit premature aging and worse general health. Telomere shortening, a prognostic biomarker of physical health, is related to aging, poor immunocompetence and autonomic nervous system functioning. Cognitive reappraisal is one type of emotion regulation strategy, which involves changing one's appraisal of an aversive situation to modify its emotional impact.

A field experiment was conducted during the wet seasons of 2013 and 2014 to evaluate the effect of three rice establishment methods: viz. puddled transplanted rice (PTR), system of rice intensification (SRI) and aerobic rice system (ARS), two cyanobacteria based inoculants, viz. (CR1) + (PR3) consortium and (An-Ps) biofilm formulation, and zinc (Zn) fertilization on the rice yield, water productivity, and nutrient use efficiency.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second-most common neurodegenerative disorder, neuropathologically characterized by the aggregation of misfolded α-synuclein (α-syn) protein, which appears to be central to the onset and progression of PD pathology. Evidence from pioneering studies has highly advocated the existence of impaired autophagy pathways in the brains of PD patients. Autophagy is an evolutionarily conserved, homeostatic mechanism for minimizing abnormal protein aggregates and facilitating organelle turnover.

Chronic wounds are a major healthcare burden, with huge public health and economic impact. Microbial infections are the single most important cause of chronic, non-healing wounds. Chronic wound infections typically form biofilms, which are notoriously recalcitrant to conventional antibiotics.

Psychological distancing, a form of cognitive reappraisal, involves construal of emotionally valenced stimuli in an objective manner, or with perceived spatial and temporal distance. Prior work suggests that in appropriate contexts, reappraisal broadly, and distancing specifically, is related to adaptive mental and physical health outcomes. Additionally, recent research suggests that shifting language to be more distant (i.

Emotion regulation often is an adaptive option in the face of elevated perceived stress. Perceived stress has been shown to have negative consequences for physical and mental health, including cognitive deficits and difficulties controlling attention. Cognitive reappraisal is an emotion regulation strategy that involves changing one's cognitive construal of an emotionally evocative stimulus to alter its emotional impact.

Grief is conceptualized by strong negative emotions, which include longing, sadness, and preoccupations with thoughts, recollections, and images of the spouse. In the initial months after the loss of a spouse, those who are widowed are at risk for cardiovascular problems and premature mortality. In the general population, depression is characterized by chronic low-grade inflammation, a key predictor of cardiovascular problems, morbidity, and mortality.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)-associated pleural effusions are usually small and asymptomatic with no need for intervention, but complex and symptomatic rheumatoid pleural effusions may be seen and are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Pleural effusions may develop before, concurrently with, or after the joint manifestations of RA. The classic features of RA-associated pleural effusions include high cell counts and protein, lipid, and lactate dehydrogenase levels and very low glucose levels, along with distinctive cytopathologic findings: slender spindle-shaped cells, multinucleated giant cells, eosinophilic granular debris, and the absence of mesothelial cells.

The use of biologics in the treatment of autoimmune disease, cancer, and other immune conditions has revolutionized medical care in these areas. However, there are drawbacks to the use of these medications including increased susceptibility to opportunistic infections. One unforeseen risk once opportunistic infection has occurred with biologic use is the onset of immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) upon drug withdrawal.
