In this study, the competitive adsorption and migration behaviors of arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), and chromium (Cr) in typical Chinese soils were investigated. It was observed that Hainan, Shanxi, and Zhejiang Mengjiadai soils exhibited the highest adsorption capacities for As (563 μg/g), Cd (653 μg/g), and Cr (383 μg/g), respectively. Heavy metals (HMs) adsorption capacities were predicted by Extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) models, and the Shapley additive explanation (SHAP) was employed to elucidate the effect of soil physicochemical properties on target values.

Exaggeration of type 2 immune responses promotes lung inflammation and altered lung development; however, eosinophils, despite expansion in the postnatal lung, have not been specifically assessed in the context of neonatal lung disease. In this study, the catalytic performance of α-FeO nanoparticles (nα-FeO) in the low-dose ferrate (Fe(VI)) system was systematically studied through the degradation of pentachlorophenol (PCP). Based on the established quadratic functions between nα-FeO amount and observed pseudo first-order rate constant (k), two linear correlation equations were offered to predict the optimum catalyst dosage and the maximum k at an applied Fe(VI) amount. Moreover, characterization and cycling experiments showed that nα-FeO has good stability and recyclability.

Purpose: A considerable barrier to global pediatric oncology efforts has been the scarcity and even absence of trained professionals in many low- and middle-income countries, where the majority of children with cancer reside. In this research, a comprehensive code called KIANA is developed based on the Gaussian plume model to simulate and predict the radiological consequences received through all the possible, reasonable, probable, and standard exposure pathways for NPPs and chemical facilities. To validate the KIANA code, a case study is modeled for Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant Unit One (BNPP-1), and the KIANA code results are compared with the results of the Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR-2017) data of BNPP-1. To assess the performance of the KIANA code, the total dose due to the airborne pathway in accident conditions including small break LOCA (SBLOCA), large break LOCA (LBLOCA), and equivalent exposure dose for the thyroid gland of a group of infants and children age 1 to 8 y at BNPP-1, are investigated.

The current investigation presents a comprehensive program called KIANA to assess and analyze the environmental effects due to the release of radioactive materials from the stack of nuclear installations. Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant Unit One (BNPP-1) is modeled using the KIANA software and the release of radioactive materials from the BNPP-1 stack on the members of the public through the airborne pathway is evaluated during normal operation as well as in the accident conditions including Design Basis Accidents (DBA) and Beyond Design Basis Accidents (BDBA). To verify and validate the KIANA software, the results of the KIANA are compared with the results of DOZA_M, ESTE, PC-CREAM 98, RECASS Express, and the values of the total effective dose monitored by the local detectors of BNPP-1.

The direct photolysis of 25 individual polychlorinated diphenyl sulfides (PCDPSs) substituted with 1-7 chlorine atoms was investigated using a 500-W Xe lamp. Photolysis of PCDPSs followed pseudo-first-order kinetics, with the higher chlorinated diphenyl sulfides generally degrading faster than the lower chlorinated congeners. A quantitative structure-activity relationship model to predict the photolysis rates of PCDPSs was developed using 16 fundamental quantum chemical descriptors.
