Background: Australia does not have a national strategy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adolescent health and as a result, policy and programming actions are fragmented and may not be responsive to needs. Efforts to date have also rarely engaged Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in co-designing solutions. The Roadmap Project aims to work in partnership with young people to define priority areas of health and well-being need and establish the corresponding developmentally appropriate, evidence-based actions.

Achieving multifunctional shape-changing hydrogels with synergistic and engineered material properties is highly desirable for their expanding applications, yet remains an ongoing challenge. The synergistic design of multiple dynamic chemistries enables new directions for the development of such materials. Herein, a molecular design strategy is proposed based on a hydrogel combining acid-ether hydrogen bonding and imine bonds.

Dynamic bonds have achieved significant attention for their ability to impart fascinating properties to polymeric materials, such as high mechanical strength, self-healing, shape memory, 3D printability, and conductivity. Incorporating multiple dynamic bonds into polymer systems affords an attractive and efficient approach to endow multiple functionalities. This mini-review focuses on the use of complementary dynamic interactions to control the properties of soft materials.

: This publication focuses on proceedings from the First Annual Lumbar Total Disc Replacement Summit, held October 25, 2016 in Boston, MA. The Summit brought together 17 thought leading surgeons who employed a modified-Delphi method to determine where consensus existed pertaining to the utilization of lumbar total disc replacement as a standard of care for a subpopulation of patients suffering from degenerative disc disease.

OBJECTIVE Recent studies have described encouraging outcomes after cervical total disc replacement (cTDR), but there are also critical debates regarding the long-term effects of heterotopic ossification (HO) and the prevalence of adjacent-level degeneration. The aim in this paper was to provide 4-year clinical and radiographic outcome results on the activ C disc prosthesis. METHODS A total of 200 subjects underwent single-level activ C (Aesculap AG) implantation between C-3 and C-7 for the treatment of symptomatic degenerative disc disease.

Purpose: Recent studies describe significant rates of heterotopic ossification (HO) after cervical total disc replacement (CTDR). Little is known about the reasons, and one aspect that requires further in vivo investigation is the biomechanical alteration after CTDR and the role of the implant-related centre of rotation (CORi) in particular. The role of the sagittal position of the CORi on functional outcome in two versions of a semi-constrained disc prosthesis with sagittally different CORi is the topic of this study.

Background: Cervical disc replacement is becoming an increasingly popular treatment option for cervical myelopathy. It retains motion at the affected segment, unlike anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. The aim of this study is to assess the outcomes of a series of patients who underwent Activ C disc replacement for cervical myelopathy.

We report a case of schwannoma of the twelfth thoracic vertebra that presented with paraparesis. The tumour was excised, and posterior and anterior stabilisation was performed. Eighteenmonths following this procedure, the patient has solid bony union, satisfactory neurological improvement and no recurrence.

Spinal epidural haematoma is an uncommon, but recognised, clinical entity that needs emergency management. The association of spinal epidural haematomata with warfarin therapy has been described and, in 1956, Alderman stated that this diagnosis should be entertained in any patient receiving anticoagulants presenting with low back pain or sciatic pain. The purpose of this case report is to increase the awareness of this entity among medical personnel and to stress the urgency of management.

Study Design: Pavlov's ratio from plain radiographs in patients with neck pain but no radicular symptoms was compared with the areas of the cervical spinal cord and cerebrospinal fluid column on magnetic resonance scans.

Summary Of Background Data: The area of the cervical canal or cord obviously depends on both the sagittal and transverse diameters. Although the pathology in stenosis of the cervical spine is mainly in the sagittal plane, narrowing only in the sagittal diameter may not indicate significant reduction in the area of the canal.

We describe the development and validation of a scoring system for auditing orthopaedic surgery. It is a minor modification of the POSSUM scoring system widely used in general surgery. The orthopaedic POSSUM system which we have developed gives predictions for mortality and morbidity which correlate well with the observed rates in a sample of 2326 orthopaedic operations over a period of 12 months.

ADCON-L anti-adhesion gel is used as an antifibrotic agent in surgery for herniated lumbar disc. We report seven patients undergoing lumbar microdiscectomy, in whom ADCON-L gel was applied to the nerve root before closure of the surgical site. After the administration of ADCON-L, tachycardia and hypotension were noted, and were quickly and effectively reversed by i.

Study Design: An in vivo experimental investigation of internal disc mechanics and discogenic pain.

Objectives: To test the hypotheses: 1) The pattern of internal loading of intervertebral discs in vivo is similar to that measured previously in vitro; 2) stress concentrations also are found in clinically degenerate discs in vivo; and stress concentrations are associated with discogenic pain.

Summary Of Background Data: Stress concentrations corresponding to potentially painful loading patterns of the intervertebral disc and endplate have been observed in vitro.

We treated 137 patients with symptomatic lumbar disc prolapse by automated percutaneous lumbar discectomy (APLD). Seventeen (12%) required further operation. At a mean follow-up of 55 months, the success rate was 45%.

The results of the first 50 consecutive patients using the Graf stabilisation system are presented. The average age of the patients was 41 years; there were 32 women and 18 men in the group. All patients suffered from intractable symptomatic degenerative disc disease which could be localised to one or more levels.
