Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in significant changes to surgical practice across the worlds. Some countries are seeing a tailing down of cases, while others are still having persistent and sustained community spread. These evolving disease patterns call for a customized and dynamic approach to the selection, screening, planning, and for the conduct of surgery for these patients.

The influence of climate change on wildland fire has received considerable attention, but few studies have examined the potential effects of climate variability on grassland area burned within the extensive steppe land of Eurasia. We used a novel statistical approach borrowed from the social science literature-dynamic simulations of autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) models-to explore the relationship between temperature, relative humidity, precipitation, wind speed, sunlight, and carbon emissions on grassland area burned in Xilingol, a large grassland-dominated landscape of Inner Mongolia in northern China. We used an ARDL model to describe the influence of these variables on observed area burned between 2001 and 2018 and used dynamic simulations of the model to project the influence of climate on area burned over the next twenty years.

Introduction: Bariatric surgery is considered an effective treatment for weight loss and for improving the metabolic profile of patients with obesity. Obesity-related comorbidities such as hyperlipidaemia and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) are significant cardiovascular risk factors. Additionally, prospective clinical trials have shown that statins increase the risk of development of DM, and many patients with obesity are on statins.

Inferior vena cava (IVC) is the most commonly injured abdominal vessel in blunt and penetrating abdominal traumas, and its injury carries a very high rate of mortality. Hemodynamic instability at presentation, poor response to resuscitation, the anatomical level of venacaval injury, low Glasgow Coma Score, and concomitant vascular and visceral injuries are the main factors predicting the outcome of the patient. The primary surgical intervention needed is the control of hemorrhage followed by the repair of IVC defect, which may be done by venorrhaphy, ligation, use of patch or grafts, and other complicated procedures.

Introduction: Obesity is a risk factor for pregnancy-induced hypertension, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and large gestational age pregnancy. Bariatric surgery is widely accepted to treat obesity but associated with small for gestational age fetuses.

Objective: To report maternal and fetal outcomes after bariatric surgery in morbidly obese Asian females.

LGR5 marks resident adult epithelial stem cells at the gland base in the mouse pyloric stomach, but the identity of the equivalent human stem cell population remains unknown owing to a lack of surface markers that facilitate its prospective isolation and validation. In mouse models of intestinal cancer, LGR5 intestinal stem cells are major sources of cancer following hyperactivation of the WNT pathway. However, the contribution of pyloric LGR5 stem cells to gastric cancer following dysregulation of the WNT pathway-a frequent event in gastric cancer in humans-is unknown.

Mixed growth hormone (GH) and prolactin (PRL) secreting adenomas are the most common type of plurihormonal pituitary adenomas. We assessed the clinical presentations and impacts of transsphenoidal surgery (TS) on patients with mixed GH and PRL adenomas including surgical outcomes, complications, and prognosis. Twelve patients (7 males, 5 females) were operated in the neurosurgery department of Qilu hospital affiliated to Shandong University, Shandong, China.

Introduction: Arterial stiffness and left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy are the key markers of hypertensive target organ damage (TOD) associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. We have previously shown that dietary inorganic nitrate supplementation lowers blood pressure (BP) in hypertension, however, whether this approach might also improve markers of hypertensive TOD is unknown. In this study, we will investigate whether daily dietary inorganic nitrate administration reduces LV mass and improves measures of arterial stiffness.

Heavy metals contamination of soil especially with cadmium (Cd) is a serious environmental concern in the current industrial era. Biochar serves as an excellent ameliorating agent depending upon its properties and application rates. In the pot scale study, effect of acid treated (AWSB) and untreated wheat straw biochar (WSB) was studied on physiology, grain yield, Cd accumulation, and tolerance of quinoa with possible health risks.

Background: The effect of bariatric surgery on improvement and remission of type 2 diabetes (T2D) is well studied. The effect of surgery on glycemic profiles of obese, but nondiabetic individuals is unknown.

Objectives: We aimed to study changes in glycemic indices in obese nondiabetics undergoing bariatric surgery and correlate fat mass loss with changes in glycemic profiles.

A Gram-stain-negative, non-motile, coccoid-shaped, catalase- and oxidase-positive, non-denitrifying, neutrophilic bacterium designated as strain JC501 was isolated from an epiphytic rhizosphere of an orchid, , growing in the Western Ghats of India. Phylogenetic analyses based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence indicated that strain JC501 belonged to the genus and had the highest levels of sequence identity with KKL-A5 (98.9 %), WPAn02 (97.

Aortic dissection is characterised by a tear in the intimal and medial layers of the endovascular aortic wall which propagates distally. Here, we discuss the case of a 35-year-old woman who was 37 weeks pregnant and presented with dizziness and blurred vision. She had a history of a neonatal end-to-end repair of a coarctation of aorta, a known bicuspid aortic valve and a dilated ascending aorta under surveillance.

Peripheral nerve injury is a complex condition which results in restricted physical activity. Despite the tremendous efforts to figure out effective remedies, the complete functional retrieval is still a goal to be achieved. So, the need of hour is the exploration of potential natural compounds to recover this functional loss.

Underrepresentation of Asian genomes has hindered population and medical genetics research on Asians, leading to population disparities in precision medicine. By whole-genome sequencing of 4,810 Singapore Chinese, Malays, and Indians, we found 98.3 million SNPs and small insertions or deletions, over half of which are novel.

Article Synopsis
  • Strain JC507 is a Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, and non-motile bacterium isolated from yeast, showing positive oxidase and catalase reactions.
  • Genetic analysis showed it closely relates to NBRC 14944 (98.7% similarity), indicating it belongs to a new species within its genus.
  • Its unique fatty acid profile and distinct genomic characteristics propose the name “sp. nov.” for this new species, with JC507 identified as the type strain.

Peripheral nerve injury is one of the major health concerns of the present era which can lead to the long-lasting disability and even demise. Currently, no effective and side effect free remedy exists and exploration of effective therapeutic strategies to regain functional outcome is a need of hour. In the present study, we used BALB/c mice (N = 14 age, 10-12 weeks & weight 32-34 g) that were divided into two groups: Normal chow (n = 7) and Fennel chow (n = 7) group.
