A Rare Case of Pseudomembranous Tracheitis Presenting as Acute Stridor in a Patient after Extubation.

Pseudomembranous tracheitis is a rare life-threatening complication of endotracheal intubation. The exact mechanism of its formation is not well known, and it could mimic crusting or retained secretions in the trachea. We encountered a patient with history of recent intubation, presenting with acute stridor requiring emergency airway stabilization, and was eventually found to have pseudomembranous tracheitis.

Concurrent Mastoid Cellulitis and Langerhans Cells Histiocytosis: A Challenging Diagnosis.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare proliferative disorder, which commonly arises in the bone and may involve other systems. To date, the diagnosis of temporal bone LCH remains a challenge as it may masquerade as a common ear infection. We report a case of a child who presented to us with persistent bilateral ear discharge for four months and was not responding to treatment.

A seven-year retrospective analysis of the clinicopathological and mycological manifestations of fungal rhinosinusitis in a single-centre tropical climate hospital.

Objective: To evaluate the clinicopathological and mycological manifestations of fungal rhinosinusitis occurring in the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, in Klang, Malaysia, which has a tropical climate.

Methods: Records of patients treated from 2009 to 2016 were analysed retrospectively. Data from the records were indexed based on age, gender, clinical presentations, symptom duration, clinical signs and mycological growth.

Transcervical approach to the removal of a deep-seated giant submandibular calculus and the submandibular gland.

Sialolithiasis is among the most common disease affecting the major salivary glands whereby the submandibular gland or its duct is affected in the majority of cases. We report a case of the surgical removal of a giant sialolith along with the submandibular gland using the transcervical approach and its clinical outcome.

Retrospective review of surgical management of foreign body ingestion.

Endoscopic examination and removal of foreign body under general anaesthesia are recommended for persistent symptomatic patient with or without significant findings on radiological examination. This report evaluates the management outcome of surgical removal of foreign body ingestion in upper gastrointestinal tract. A total of 70 cases with full documentation were reviewed retrospectively from June 1998 until December 2007.

Migration of foreign body from postcricoid region to the subcutaneous tissue of the neck.

Migration of a foreign body from the hypopharynx to the subcutaneous tissue of the neck is a rare event. We report a case of a 48-year-old male who accidentally swallowed a fish bone which was not identified intraoperatively. The patient then presented with migration of the bone to the soft tissue of the neck.

Synovial sarcoma: a rare presentation of parapharyngeal mass.

Synovial sarcoma is a rare soft tissue sarcoma of the head and neck region involving the parapharyngeal space. The diagnosis of synovial sarcoma can be very challenging to the pathologists. We present a rare case of parapharyngeal synovial sarcoma in a young female patient who had a two-month history of left cervical intumescent mass at level II.

Necrotizing fasciitis of the head and neck: surgical outcomes in three cases.

Necrotizing fasciitis of the head and neck is a rare, rapidly progressive infection involving the skin, subcutaneous tissue and fascia. We report three cases of necrotizing fasciitis that differ in their presentation and outcome. The first case involves a patient who presented with progressively enlarging anterior neck swelling that was later complicated by dehydration and reduced consciousness.
