Artificial periosteum is deemed a novel strategy for inducing endogenous bone regeneration, but ideal periosteum substitutes achieved by orchestrating a biomimetic microenvironment for bone regeneration remain a significant challenge. Here, we design and fabricate a hybridized nanofiber-based artificial periosteum with boosted osteoinduction properties. Via a "molecular cage" biomineralization strategy, nano-hydroxyapatite (nano-HAp) with a controllable size (∼22 nm) and excellent dispersion serves as unique nano-additives for water-soluble polyvinyl-alcohol (PVA)-based artificial periosteum.

The gut microbiota plays a critical role in numerous biochemical processes essential for human health, such as metabolic regulation and immune system modulation. An increasing number of research suggests a strong association between the gut microbiota and carcinogenesis. The diverse metabolites produced by gut microbiota can modulate cellular gene expression, cell cycle dynamics, apoptosis, and immune system functions, thereby exerting a profound influence on cancer development and progression.

Article Synopsis
  • - A new method using cellulose nanofibers modified with methyl methacrylate (CNFM) improves carbon paper (CP) by addressing issues with bonding and porosity caused by phenol formaldehyde resin (PF) impregnation, enhancing the performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs).
  • - The CNFM-modified CP shows significant improvements: a 35.78% reduction in in-plane resistivity, an increase in connected porosity to 82.26%, and a more consistent pore size distribution between 20-40 μm.
  • - Additionally, the mechanical properties of CNFM-modified CP are enhanced, with increases in tensile strength (72.78%), flexural strength (

Senecaviurs A (SVA) infection, an emerging infectious disease in pig populations, is characterized by vesicular lesions predominantly affecting the mouth, snout, and hooves of infected pigs, similar to the symptoms of Foot and Mouth Disease Virus (FMDV). This disease first spread into China in 2015, causing great panic in the pig breeding industry. To determine the prevalence of SVA in pig herds in China from 2018 to 2021, a total of 4,901 pig tissue samples were collected from 18 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities (P.

Cells are the essential building blocks of living organisms, responsible for carrying out various biochemical reactions and performing specific functions. In eukaryotic cells, numerous membrane organelles have evolved to facilitate these processes by providing specific spatial locations. In recent years, it has also been discovered that membraneless organelles play a crucial role in the subcellular organization of bacteria, which are single-celled prokaryotic microorganisms characterized by their simple structure and small size.

Heat dissipation is necessary for the safer operation of high-power electronic devices and high-capacity batteries. Thermal meta-materials can efficiently manipulate heat flow by molding natural materials into specific structures. In this study, we construct a three-dimensional-printed meta-material structure with efficient and deterministic heat conduction through combining the 2D boron nitride (BN) with nano-diamond (DM) bridging.

Background: Lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (LELC) of the lung is a rare type of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and researches of it are still not enough.

Methods: In this study, we retrospectively analyzed 36 patients with LELC diagnosed in the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and Zhaoqing First People's Hospital from January 2014 to June 2021, to investigate the clinical manifestations, tumor markers, treatment, and prognosis of LELC. Clinical data including age, gender, smoking history, family history of cancers, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) encoding RNA (EBER) status, gene mutations, programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression, treatment, and prognosis.

Background: The role of caudal-related homeobox 2 (CDX2) in the pathogenesis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the mRNA (message RNA) expression of CDX2 in NSCLC, and to determine its relationship with miR-744 (microRNA744) and its potential as a biomarker of NSCLC.

Methods: MiR-744 is overexpressed in A549, H460, and H1299 cell lines.

In this study, an effective and facile strategy is reported to construct a multifunctional nanoplatform by in situ doping metal manganese on gold core mesoporous silica nanoparticles (Au@MMSN). After further modification of alendronate (Ald) on Au@MMSN, the obtained Au@MMSN-Ald efficiently integrates bone targeted chemo-chemodynamic combination therapy and dual-modality computed tomography/magnetic resonance (CT/MR) imaging into a single platform. In particular, Au@MMSN-Ald exhibits excellent tumor microenvironment responsive drug release efficiency.

Background: Non-dominant population, which means patients with advanced non-squamous lung cancer or non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) without driver-mutations, who are excluded from clinical studies because of specific baseline conditions refractory to multiple treatments, have poor outcomes. We assessed the activity of pemetrexed first-line treatment for a non-dominant population, explore the safety and efficacy of pemetrexed therapy.

Methods: We did this two-phased, single-arm trial at two sites at the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and Guangxi medical university cancer hospital.

Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) is a significant cause of infectious diarrhea in animals. In this study, yeast surface display technology was employed to investigate the effects of ETEC enterotoxin fusion protein on the intestinal flora and mucosal immunity of rats. ETEC estA, estB, and eltAB (heat-labile and heat-stable toxins) were expressed on the surface of yeast.

Upregulation of miR-744 is associated with poor prognosis in many types of cancer patients, but it is still unclear how miR-744 becomes elevated in these tumors. In this study, we found that ectopic c-Jun elevated miR-744 expression, whereas c-Jun attenuation reduced miR-744 expression. Chromatin immunoprecipitation assay confirmed the direct binding of c-Jun to the promoter of miR-744.

Metastasis-associated gene 1 (MTA1) is associated with cell growth, metastasis, and survival in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Several previous reports have demonstrated that microRNAs affect gene expression through interaction between their seed region and the 3'-untranslated region of the target mRNA, resulting in post-transcriptional regulation. The aim of this study was to identify miRNAs that suppress malignancy in NSCLC cells by targeting MTA1.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a highly invasive and metastasis-prone epithelial cancer. The paucity of effective treatment strategies for recurrent and metastatic NPC is the major cause for stagnating survival rate of NPC. Therefore, it's urgent to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying NPC progression and identify novel avenues for targeted therapy.
