The degradation of methylene blue dye-contaminated wastewater via photocatalysis is an efficient approach towards environmental remediation. The SrZrO perovskite photocatalyst was synthesized using the modified Pechini sol-gel method, and characterized using XRD, FESEM, FTIR, and UV-visible spectrophotometer. Crystallite size obtained by the Scherrer and Williamson-Hall methods were 45.

A study of seasonal variation, sources and potential risks of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in open city drains in Makurdi, Central Nigeria was carried out. OCPs and PCBs were quantified using gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer. The total (∑OCPs) concentrations (ngL) of OCPs in water was 2.

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) have been classified as persistent organic pollutants (POPs) as well as endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs). This study determined the concentrations of six PBDE congeners (BDE 47, BDE 99, BDE 100, BDE 153, BDE 154, and BDE 183) in water and sediment samples from open city drains, in the Makurdi Metropolitan Area, North Central Nigeria, using gas chromatogragh-mass spectrometer. These congeners are components of the penta- and octa-BDE formulations that have been banned by the European Union.

There have been concerns about which iron chelate is most suitable for application in the photo-Fenton process as well as the fate of these chelates after application. In this study, five chelating agents, i.e.

In this review, we have critically examined the alternatives to conventional photo-Fenton process such as the strategies to perform it in circumneutral pH in the so-called photo-Fenton like process. They include iron chelation, iron replacement with another metal and use of iron immobilized on surfaces of solid materials, use of iron oxides, among others. The use of such strategies can be employed to overcome the challenges identified in conventional photo-Fenton, moreover, advantages and drawback of each technique must be clarified and the recent achievements should be shared with the scientific community.

Information on polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in the indoor environment in developing countries is still relatively scarce. In this study, house (n=10) and office (n=11) dusts samples collected from Makurdi, Benue State Nigeria were extracted and analysed for most abundant PBDEs congeners in the environment. Soxhlet extraction followed by GC-EIMS was employed for the measurement of PBDEs (BDE-47, -100, -99, -154, -153, -183 and -209).

River Benue, the second largest river in Nigeria, serves as the major source of municipal water supplies for towns and villages along its course. Water samples from the river were collected at ten stations in the Makurdi metropolitan area (7°44(') N, 8°32(') E) in Benue State, Central Nigeria, for 12 months and analyzed for their heavy metals concentration, along with other water-quality parameters such as turbidity, pH, total dissolved solids and total solids. The results revealed that the mean concentrations of heavy metals in the river was in the following ascending order, Cd < Cu < Zn < Mn < Pb < Cr < Fe.

The objective of this study was to carry out a field survey of the solid waste generation profile in parts of Makurdi, a rapidly growing urban city in north central Nigeria. The areas surveyed covered low, medium and high-density residential quarters, representing high/medium/low income groups in the area. Results of the survey show that the bulk ( approximately 82%) of the solid waste generated in the area originates from households, rather than from commercial, institutional or industrial premises.
