A study has been made of the effect of ethanol and CCl4 on hormonal induction of tyrosine aminotransferase in mouse liver. Both the hepatotropic poisons administered for a long time lose the induction effect and considerably reduce the same effect exerted by hydrocortisone. Microscopic study has revealed fatty dystrophy of the liver cells and even the formation of the areas of necrosis as a result of administering CCl4.

The results of microspectrophotometric measurements of the content of DNA of the cell nuclei developed in the zones of growth of 52 neoplasms of the lung of different histological types and degree of differentiation are shown. It was found that the growth of anaplasia of the tumour tissue to be characterized by increased "DNA Accumulation Index" and increased polyploidy. The authors think that quantitative determination of the DNA may be of value as an objective diagnostic test of malignization and degree of differentiation of lung cancer.

Taking into consideration the fact that the ascorbic acid takes an active part in the process of growth and reproduction of the cells, the authors have undertook the microspectrophotometric research of its content in 27 different structure cancerous tumours of the uterous cervix. The result of the research showed the decrease of the quantity of ascorbic acid in cancerous tumours of the uterous cervix in compare with norm. The content of ascorbic acid in carcinomas cancerous tumours of the uterine cervix depends on the degree of differentiation and histogenesis of the neoplasm.

The composite microspectrophotometric study of the content of DNA, PAS-positive, alcian-positive substances, lipids, and the activity of succinate dehydrogenase and ascorbic acid in the cervical epithelium normally and in cancer tumors showed preinvasive forms of cancer to be characterized by increased polyploidy, content of DNA and lipids, and increased activity of succinate dehydrogenase, and decreased content of glycogen, acid mucopolysaccharides and ascorbic acid. Invasive forms of cancer are characterized by more marked changes in these values.
