Canine hip and elbow dysplasias, which are prevalent orthopedic conditions rooted in developmental and hereditary factors are yet to be comprehensively assessed. This study aimed to address this gap by exploring the prognostic significance of five markers linked to canine hip dysplasia using available genome-wide association studies (GWAS) data. The influence of these markers on both hip and elbow dysplasia was examined in dogs exposed to standardized environmental conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • Hip dysplasia is a significant concern for dog owners and veterinarians
  • , primarily influenced by factors like hip laxity and joint incongruence. Studies aim to understand and reduce its prevalence through early diagnosis and healthy breeding practices.
  • This study examined the relationship between hip dysplasia and specific measurements
  • (femoral head area, femoral coverage, and cranio-caudal distance) in 264 adult dogs from three breeds. The results showed variations in these measurements by breed and sex that correlate with dysplasia status.
  • Key findings indicated that as hip dysplasia worsens, femoral head area tends to decrease
  • , with significant breed-specific differences noted, particularly amongst German wirehaired pointers, German shepherds

Objective:  The objectives of this study were to record the values of Insall-Salvati (IS) index and its modification in dogs classified into four different body weight groups and to determine whether these index values were influenced by sex.

Study Design:  Bilateral mediolateral radiographs of 86 dogs were obtained. The dogs were classified into four different body weight groups: small, medium, large and giant.

The detection of bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) in a female Holstein calf presented with perosomus elumbis, a congenital anomaly, is reported here. A cow with dystocia was evaluated and an abnormal dead calf was detected during vaginal examination. The calf was retrieved via caesarean section and exhibited abnormalities characteristic of PE, such as vertebral and pelvic malformations.

Objective: To determine the intravascular electrolyte status in dairy cows with respect to age and different courses of parturition to clarify etiological factors influencing peri- or intrapartal imbalances of electrolyte homeostasis.

Material And Methods: A total of 64 cows at birth were evaluated (primiparous n = 34, pluriparous n = 30). Thirty-three cows showed normal delivery, while 31 cows had a complicated birth.

Material And Methods: Between 2007 and 2010 a total of 1167 Holstein and Brown Swiss cows were examined clinically and bacteriologically.

Article Synopsis
  • Bite wounds are a common reason for cats to be taken to veterinary clinics, and managing these wounds properly is crucial for recovery, potentially more so than just relying on antibiotics.
  • The case discussed involves a heavily pregnant cat with severe abdominal injuries from a bite, leading to multiple complications including a necrotic kidney and ruptures, which required extensive surgery.
  • After surgery, which included removal of a deceased fetus and treatment of various injuries, the cat made a full recovery within two weeks, demonstrating that even serious bite wounds can have successful outcomes with appropriate surgical intervention.

Clinical, ultrasonographic, and macroscopic findings of bursitis in cows were compared to assess the contribution of diagnosis and therapy planning. Sixteen dairy cows with swelling at the carpal (n = 12) or tarsal (n = 4) region were examined clinically and ultrasonographically and the findings were compared. In 10 patients the bursae were removed in toto.
