Patients with advanced-stage follicular lymphoma (FL) who progress early after receiving first-line therapy have poor overall survival (OS). Currently applied clinical prognostic models such as FL International Prognostic Index [FLIPI], FLIPI-2 and PRIMA-Prognostic Index [PRIMA-PI] have suboptimal sensitivity and specificity to predict this poor prognosis subgroup. Western boundary currents (WBCs) redistribute heat and oligotrophic seawater from the tropics to temperate latitudes, with several displaying substantial climate change-driven intensification over the last century. Strengthening WBCs have been implicated in the poleward range expansion of marine macroflora and fauna, however, the impacts on the structure and function of temperate microbial communities are largely unknown. Here we show that the major subtropical WBC of the South Pacific Ocean, the East Australian Current (EAC), transports microbial assemblages that maintain tropical and oligotrophic (k-strategist) signatures, to seasonally displace more copiotrophic (r-strategist) temperate microbial populations within temperate latitudes of the Tasman Sea.

Understanding the interaction of amino acids with metal surfaces is essential for the rational design of chiral modifiers able to confer enantioselectivity to metal catalysts. Here, we present an investigation of the adsorption of aspartic acid (Asp) on the Ni{100} surface, using a combination of synchrotron X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure, and density functional theory simulations. Based on the combined analysis of the experimental and simulated data, we can identify the dominant mode of adsorption as a pentadentate configuration with three O atoms at the bridge sites of the surfaces, and the remaining oxygen atom and the amino nitrogen are located on atop sites.
