Article Synopsis
  • Radiotherapy is a common treatment for breast cancer, but patients respond differently due to variations in their intrinsic radiosensitivity (RS). Researchers are exploring alternatives to the standard clonogenic assay for predicting RS.
  • In this study, blood samples from 10 breast cancer patients were analyzed using clonogenic, γ-H2AX, and apoptosis assays to evaluate their RS levels, revealing three distinct RS groups: high, medium, and low.
  • Results indicated that high RS patients had fewer double-strand breaks in their DNA, but their DNA repair systems were less active compared to others. The study concluded that using a combination of assays is necessary for more accurate predictions of intrinsic RS in breast cancer patients.

Background: There are controversies regarding the usefulness of the pyloric drainage methods after esophagectomy as well as differences among various pyloric drainage techniques. Therefore, we compared the outcome of pyloromyotomy, pylorus buginage, and no intervention methods on gastric emptying among patients undergone esophagectomy.

Materials And Methods: In this randomized clinical trial, patients with diagnosed esophageal cancer or any other benign lesions candidate for esophagectomy were selected.

Background: Considering the poor survival rate of patients with esophageal cancers, mainly due to the disease effects and surgical co morbidities, we have aimed to introduce a new method of Transhiatal Esophagectomy (THE) without mediastinal manipulation for lower third esophageal and cardial cancers. It has suggested that using this technique would decrease mentioned complications.

Methods: In this prospective study, patients with esophageal cancer who referred for surgical treatment have enrolled and undergone to new method of THE, without mediastinal manipulation.

Article Synopsis
  • A parathyroid lipoadenoma is a rare type of tumor that can appear as a mediastinal mass, showing symptoms similar to common parathyroid diseases linked to primary hyperparathyroidism.
  • A 58-year-old woman with a large multinodular goiter underwent a thoracic CT scan, revealing a mass behind the sternum.
  • Microscopic analysis indicated that the mass was composed of cells resembling parathyroid tissue mixed with fat, leading to the diagnosis of a non-functional parathyroid lipoadenoma.

Objective: Anti-tumor immunity and cytokine profiles have important roles in the development of cancer. Norepinephrine (NE) release due to sympathetic activation leads to a Th2 deviation via the beta-2 adrenergic receptor Beta-2 adrenergic receptor (β-2AR) and could increase cancer progression. This study intends to determine the effects of isoproterenol (ISO; beta-agonist) and propranolol (PRO; beta-antagonist) on the production of IFN-γ, IL-4, and IL-17.
