Cervical cancer screening programs in Australia have been developed to detect early precancerous changes in women with a cervix aged between 25 and 74. Yet, many barriers remain to the uptake of cervical screening. Barriers include a lack of culturally appropriate service provision, physical access, poor health literacy, emotional difficulties, socio-economic disadvantage and not having access to a female service provider.

The Latrobe Smoking Support Service: A quantitative study of participants in a regional area.

Background And Aims: More than 70% of current smokers in Australia have a definite plan to stop smoking and around half of them try to quit every year. Latrobe Community Health Service (LCHS) was commissioned by Gippsland Primary Health Network to establish Latrobe Smoking Support Service (LSSS) to break down barriers to accessing services and increase support for smoking cessation. This research aims to assess the feasibility of an ongoing smoking cessation support service and determine the effect the LSSS has on client smoking behavior.

The developed asymmetric monovalent bispecific IgG1 or Duet monoclonal antibody (Duet mAb) has two distinct fragment antigen-binding region (Fab) subunits that target two different epitope specificities sequentially or simultaneously. The design features include unique engineered disulfide bridges, knob-into-hole mutations, and kappa and lambda chains to produce Duet mAbs. These make it structurally and functionally complex, so one expects challenging developability linked to instability, degradation of products and pathways, and limited reports available.

Identification and quantification of chain-pairing variants or mispaired species of asymmetric monovalent bispecific IgG1 monoclonal antibody format using reverse-phase polyphenyl chromatography coupled electrospray ionization mass spectrometry.

Developing a knob-into-hole asymmetric bispecific IgG1 monoclonal antibody (mAb) poses manufacturing challenges due to the expression of chain pairing variants, also called mispaired species, in the desired product. The incorrect pairing of light and heavy chains could result in heterogeneous mispaired species of homodimers, heterodimers, light chain swapping, and low molecular weight species (LMWS). Standard chromatography, capillary electrophoretic, or spectroscopic methods poorly resolve these from the main variants.

The experiences of people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) using activity monitors in everyday life: an interpretative phenomenological study.

Purpose: Understanding the experiences of people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) using activity monitors in daily life could support the utilisation of technology within healthcare to increase physical activity and support self-management. This qualitative study aimed to explore the experiences of people with COPD using activity monitors at home in everyday life.

Methods: Semi-structured face-to-face or telephone interviews were conducted with seven people with COPD between August 2018 and June 2020.

Student-led pop-up health check clinics: innovative health prevention strategy for a low socioeconomic community.

Background: To improve preventative health screening in regional Victoria, Australia, a collaborative student-led health prevention strategy was initiated. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of four health check clinics using a free 'pop-up' format within community settings.

Methods: A mixed methods, explanatory sequential design was used to explore community health data and participant experiences in utilising the free health check clinics.

A Comparison of Physical Activity Between Home-Based and Centre-Based Pulmonary Rehabilitation: A Randomised Controlled Secondary Analysis.

Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is a highly effective intervention for individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Physical activity (PA) has been shown to increase after a centre-based programme, yet it is not clear if a home-based programme can offer the same benefit. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of home-based PR compared with the centre-based PR on the PA levels post 7 weeks of PR and 6 months follow-up.

Talking about health: Community ambassadors as a health promotion strategy to increase breast and bowel cancer screening in regional Australia.

Issue Addressed: In Australia, cancer is the leading contributor to disease burden, with breast and bowel cancer among the most commonly diagnosed cancers. Despite the presence of community-wide health promotion activities and screening programs, people living in regional and rural locations experience a number of factors that reduce breast and bowel cancer survival outcomes. This study investigates the ways that high-risk community members in a regional area of Australia interact with health messaging about breast and bowel cancer screening.

The biofilms of Enterobacteriaceae are fortified by assembly of curli amyloid fibres on the cell surface. Curli not only provides structural reinforcement, but also facilitates surface adhesion. To prevent toxic intracellular accumulation of amyloid precipitate, secretion of the major curli subunit, CsgA, is tightly regulated.

An Efficient Method for Generating Murine Hypothalamic Neurospheres for the Study of Regional Neural Progenitor Biology.

The hypothalamus is a key homeostatic brain region and the primary effector of neuroendocrine signaling. Recent studies show that early embryonic developmental disruption of this region can lead to neuroendocrine conditions later in life, suggesting that hypothalamic progenitors might be sensitive to exogenous challenges. To study the behavior of hypothalamic neural progenitors, we developed a novel dissection methodology to isolate murine hypothalamic neural stem and progenitor cells at the early timepoint of embryonic day 12.

Rehabilitation of persons with dementia: using technology to improve participation.

Objectives: The current study examined how a technology system, "It's Never 2 Late" (iN2L), may help augment traditional rehabilitation strategies for older adults with dementia by improving engagement in therapy sessions and achieving better functional outcomes.

Method: The study used a two group quasi-experimental design. Older adults with dementia (N = 96) were recruited from two rehabilitation departments housed within residential care communities.

The impact of caring for children on women's research output: A retrospective cohort study.

We used a retrospective cohort study to measure the impact of caring for children on female Australian researchers. Our aim was to see whether caring for children was associated with reduced outputs and collaboration. Women were randomly selected for inclusion if they published a first author paper in one of three Australian journals during 2007 to 2015, women who did not publish during this time were not included.

Evaluation of multidisciplinary pulmonary rehabilitation education delivered by either DVD or spoken talk.

Introduction: Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is a multidisciplinary program of care for patients with chronic respiratory disease. The educational component is an integral component and represents a large proportion of a program. However, it can be difficult to secure regular multidisciplinary input to PR programs.

Apps and wearables for monitoring physical activity and sedentary behaviour: A qualitative systematic review protocol on barriers and facilitators.

Objective: Monitoring of physical activity and sedentary behaviours by mobile phone applications (apps) and wearable technology (wearables) may improve these health behaviours. This systematic review aims to synthesise the qualitative literature on the barriers and facilitators of using apps and wearables for monitoring physical activity and/or sedentary behaviour in adults.
